  • Fun-key .30 Airwolf fuse from LHC

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I got my Airwolf 30 size fuse from LHC and it came without instructions and also was missing the lower cockpit windows (where the pilots feet would be).

I'm getting conflicting stories as LHC tell me that the .30 size doesn't get the windows as the holes are needed for airflow to cool the engine... but the instructions on Century's website say to cut a hole in the bottom of the fuse for that to line up with your heli's cooling duct intake

    YET

All the pictures on the net of .30 Century and Fun-Keys seem to have either a) no windows cut out there or b) plastic windows.

LHC are sending me a build video as they say a manual does not exist as far as they are aware - so how comes Century buyers get the manual when its the same fuse?

Grrrrr LOL Thank christ it's Friday!

Have a look at the pictures of my Airwolf here: Scallywag Models-Scale Fly-In 2009 . This is the 50 size Funkey fuselage, but should be the same.

P.S. I'm not at home at the moment, so i can't go and look at the model.

the un-painted 30 one only has the front windows
the door widows have no glazing
the lower footwell isn't cut out for any glazing (and leave it that way)
the upper roof has no glazing and is not cut out

the pre-paint 30 has and orange top glazing (this may be paint) and i'm not sure on the lower/footwell
but the pre-painted bell 222 60 size has painted glazing
and the door windows has no glazing

if the upper and lower panels have been cut out for glazing either get some clear plasticard off ebay or use a plastic pop bottle

mine is deffo cut out at the lower footwell glazing area. Looks like it was done professionally too as its as per the main front windows clean as a whistle. The upper windows are also cut out.... that's why I questioned it as I've seen others not cut out... although my kit has "windows" in it for that area.

        Look....

if that came out of the factory like that then it should have glazing panels supplied

but it could be a body thats been started but returned

as i said it could be
but i would try to look at another one of the later 30 bodies as they may all be like it

Dave at LHC recons all his stock has cut outs and no windows to fit in there and all have no instructions included. Hmmmm. I've emailed Fun Key to see what the score is as without instructions theres a whole bunch of wooden pre cut parts and no clue as to where they go

i've just looked on the century web site
the cn4035 un-painted 30 size airwolf has the top and bottom windows cut out
i quote 'the semi tinted top and bottom windows included (requires cutting)'

the funky one should be supplied with those missing windows

                      Thought I'd update you all

LHC sent me the missing windows - also FunKey sent me some too!

Progressing well with the fuselage assembly. Using some of the ideas from Raptor Technique and some from the Century Helicopters assembly sheet (hardly instructions!!)

One thing I noticed is that the tail assembly is the wrong shape for a Bell 222 - the bottom section is angled when if you look at Airwolf itself it is straight. Out came the Dremel... and some resin... sorted :-)

The antenna at the rear which will be candy cane red and white is fashioned from a central heating boiler flame failure device - pulled out the bimetallic strip and nice copper tube ready to bend into shape and fill with resin. Sorted!!

The white LED in the tail will be connected to a strobe effect circuit from Maplin Electronics - thought it would be more realistic than a normal flashing LED.

Second LED on that circuit is a flat topped red one on top of the engine cover in the scale position as per the real thing...

Loads more to do still but having great fun. Haven't even taken the Rappy kit out of its box yet. :-)

                        Achieved some more tonight...

Mesh cut to size and glued first piece in..

Scale blue-light LED's (flat top 5mm) mounted in machine gun pods as per original..

                        here is one side illuminated..

Red standard 5mm flashing LED looks great surface mounted as the under-boom beacon..

Vertical tail LED and engine cowl-top LED's will be hooked up to a strobe effect generator circuit from Maplin Electronics - really getting there now. Another week or so and it'll be ready for paint.

Getting there slowly but surely. Will soon be at a stage to start laying on some primer and getting rid of any imperfections.

More done tonight - cut a 6" servo extension lead in half, gave me a male and female plug / socket which I have wired into the LED on the engine cover. This will allow me to unplug and remove the engine cover without a dangling wire between them.

Also made myself some Pitot tubes and a mid-air refuelling boom.... amazing what you can do with a few odds and ends. The refuelling boom is a cotton bud tube reinforced with stiff wire up its centre and a small plastic widget CA'd onto the end. This fitting plus the pitots came with the scale accessories set with the fuselage (optional).
