For plug and pray ya cant beat a 401 , its what i got in my pod and booms ... My scale uses a JR550T which I got cheap so its in there otherwise it would be 401's all round ..They pretty cheap and are good gyros and for setting up they are pretty easy ... even for a nOObie as well ...For what Talisa wants to do a 401/9254 are ideal .... Me I use 6965's on my tails but then i dont do n e 3D lol

Scally, I guess that is sort of what I was trying to say, although my SMC appear to 10% over the average price, in my mind they are worth the extra 10% because of the help and advice they give me, as well as the little extras they do not charge me for.
MikeW, I have decided that I am going to go with the 401 as I do want to install and forget it.

Ok Marks right the 401 combo is cheeper than a Spartan and a servo.. They are both very capable gyros .... But like Ade said for cost effective then dont look at them use an esky gyro and a no name servo with an active thumb....
It took me ages to set up a CSM560 and a 9254 on a shuttle and make it work properly... The spartan/9650 on my 450 was set in minutes and the spartan/BLS251 on my knight was spot on after the gain adjustment on the first tank... I havent used a 401 so cant comment on setup but they hold perfectly...

Yeah, I like SMC. I've dealt with them on-line and on the phone, and they've always been straight-up.Originally posted by Talisa View PostScally, I guess that is sort of what I was trying to say, although my SMC appear to 10% over the average price, in my mind they are worth the extra 10% because of the help and advice they give me, as well as the little extras they do not charge me for.
If they were my LHS where I popped in for a chat, I'd definitely try and support them with my custom.
Having said that, I've never heard a bad word about Fast-Lad, they've always been helpful and good to deal with. Their on-line service is also very slick. (eg a compnent of a package I ordered from them was out of stock - so they sourced one from another supplier, and it still all turned up on time. And they mailed me to say this is what would happen. Class act.)Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...

the 401 is great. you stick it on, do a basic setup on the bench set the gain to 50% and it will just fly.
tweek the gain up a bit higher until it wags then back it down a little. it will work weekin week out with no issues. just need to check your gyro pad as part of the pre flight checks as they can break after a while.
the 401 only shows its limits when you get into doing backwards and piroetting moves which for me is where the spartan comes through, still just as easy to setup but if you do have a model that is a bit strange in the tail department you can tweek the setup to suit it.
spartan ds760 would be overkill for what you need in this case. although when the spartan DS630 comes out it might be a different matter
