  • What Gyro to use on T-Rex 600E Airowlf

Apologies for the miss spelin of Airwolf in the title.

I am about to embark on fitting an Century Airwolf kit onto a T-Rex 600E. When I purchased my original 600E I was advised to get a Futaba 401 gyro as it was a higher rate one (?).

I only intend on carrying out scale flight (nothing approaching 3D). With this in mind, what gyro would you recommend. I do not really fancy spending another £170 odd if the gyro is capable of doing way over and above of what I am asking it to do. The only real criteria I have is that it must be Heading Hold/Lock or whatever it is called.

    Thanks in advance.

A futaba 401 would be just fine, usually a few around 2nd hand too . just match that with a futaba 9254 for a good combo..personally I prefer to buy a tail servo new

When you say cheap ChrisB, can you define how cheap? I have been looking at

        http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=866

and it is about £166 inc Servo.

            401 / 9254 = fit and forget.

You can usually get a good deal on the combo from Phil Henderson on here. Great guy to deal with

Dont pay UK retail for a 401/9254 combo coz its a ripoff.

Phil Henderson or get from Hong Kong

              www.neogl.com

              www.flying-hobby.com

Or go for secondhand on the BMFA easily under 100 quid for the pair

Looking at the fast lad site now, certainly appears cheaper, although in saying that I am happy to pay a little over the odds as the personal touch provided by them to me is of great help and they are generally very helpful where they can be.

Why do I guess that was a humorous jibe that's gone right over my head..?

I gather you're a Spartan fan (?), but the CSM stuff I looked at looked quite cool to my naive eye. What am I missing..?

so 120 pounds for the gyro alone and then the servo...

401 and 9254 is the best for the scale option, easy to fit and set up

about 149 pounds for the combo and its the best combo for the money

Again look at this AD on here:

                          http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/classi...duct=423&cat=8

Loads of people can vouch for philhenderson inc myself he's quick and the item will be new

oh wait its 120 pounds cannot fault it

Comparing their prices they are on average 10% less than I would normally pay, so obviously cheaper but not sure that in reality that equates to good value for money (for me) as they spend a huge amount of specialist times setting things up for me etc.

Thanks for pointing me in their direction. It could be that when I become more self sufficient in this hobby then cheap parts will have a true value for me.

                            Thanks

I'm not trying to be awkward...

...but I wish that when people say 'such and such is better', they'd say why they think it's better.

eg 'cheap and easy to set-up' is great, but someone else might be prepard to trade cost and simplicity for added versatility or tunability.

If you don't say we'll never know - and it's all opinion at the end of the day.
