Update:

I maidened the Wasp E2K yesterday; Maderdog thanks for the recommendation, best plank I've flown in ages!
Absolutely blisteringly fast, would recommend it to anyone who would like a fast, cheap, aerobatic plank.

Only down side is that the prop will occasionally break upon landing as happened on my second flight.
But props are cheap :-)

Nice one Danny, best 4 cell plank I have seen yet.

What battery did you go for and what sort of flight times ?

Thing to watch is elevator servo, make sure it is metal as it takes a pounding. :-)

I'm using this battery for now:
HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : Turnigy nano-tech 2200mah 4S 45~90C Lipo Pack

Not sure on flight times, didn't time the flight (too excited), probably around 3-6 mins.
Quite possibly around 3-4mins on full power as the battery came down quite warm.

I'm going to see if the battery for my hawk will fit in it for extended flight times:

I can't remember what servos I put in there but I think they are decent metal gear Futaba ones.

I've found the next plank I'll be buying once I'm used to the Wasp:

magnumr
Or possibly the mini version:
MINI MAGNUMR

The kit is only £100 and a claimed 200mph top speed. :drool5:

Speed is good. :)

The Wasp is running on nanotec 4s batteries, are you running a higher cell count on yours?

I'm going to try and get the Magnum to run on 6s batteries as I have lots of 6s 3000mah batteries for my trex 500.

Hey Danny, take a little look at this kit if you want a really speedy plank, it's a nice composite jobbie too :)

Looks quite nice, similar to the E2K but composite.

Any idea how fast it goes?

Not sure of the actual speed figures but having spotted one on display in the shop and thinking it looked pretty smart i chatted to Mike at West Wales models about it, he said, having flown his own one that it's pretty damn fast bordering on ballistic with the hot power set and 3 cell set up and you really have to be on your toes with eyes peeled because being quite small and fast, it vanishes into the blue very quickly and the profile from behind is very thin so not much to see until you turn it. :):)
Mike was watching someone demo flying the model at a show doing a low high speed inverted pass and in the blink of an eye he buried it into the turf when he forgot he was inverted. :ack2:
I would say it's not a model for the faint hearted but if you enjoy adrenaline then well worth a go and make sure you fly it somewhere with plenty of landing approach because he said it took a couple of tight circuits without power to slow it enough to land. :D

Just noticed it says currently out of stock but i'm sure he'd get one pretty quick if you were interested.

Thanks Vic.P, I'll certainly consider that model.

I finally maidened the Hawk today:cheers2:

I decided to give it one last shot at takeoff on grass at Richmond Park.
It struggled to take off on the bumpy grass but did get airborne in the end.

The model wasn't quite as fast as I was hoping for and needs some adjustment on the model to get it to fly level. Unsurprisingly being fibreglass (heavy) and a small swept back wing it stall's and spins a lot easier than most models, if not all I've flow before.
But saying all that it's a lovely challenge to fly and looks great in the air.

Here is the uncut video, I'll upload it to youtube at some point:

Hi if anyone is still interested in edf jets. I am lucky enough to own both a bling bling Stryker and a Habu and a lander with retracts and wemotec fan. The Lander is very fragile. The Parkzone Habu and pusher prop Stryker are robust little critters and easily repaired. One accident with the Lander and it's a carrier bag for life! Can't go wrong with the the Habu. Run it on 4s or if you buzz about with 500 scale helis wack the 6s in it. Nanotec version is 20 grams more so big deal.
If you can fly and land on wheels, everytime then Landers are fine. If you want a field landing, throw and catch or belly landing, Stryker or Habu.
No, no. I meant to do that.

Kol, the Stryker and Habu are both quite nice models, been quite tempted by one in the past.

An update on the Wasp E2K pylon racer, after about 10 or so flights it had a strange (so far) unexplained accident:

I've now uploaded the video of the maiden flight of the Hawk to youtube:
YouTube - RC - BAE Hawk Maiden Flight

The unusual landing location was due to that being the smoothest area to land.
All other pilots where well aware of what was going on. A more suitable spot is now being used for take off and landing. /end safety nazi pre-emption
