• which ARTF EDF jet?

    Hi all,

    I'm after a cheap (around £100 +-50) ARTF/RTF/BNF EDF jet.

Ideally it should only require a 2.4ghz transmitter and maybe a battery for the model.

Looked around and the only ones I could find were £200+
There seems to be quite a lot around that already include the transmitter, but as I already have a dx6i it seems silly to buy another.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Danny

Jake Gazzard asked the same thing a few weeks back. I suggest you need something that is supported with spare parts (important) and able to run with cheap 3s 2200 batteries. For these reasons my suggestions remain unchanged:

Phase 3 squall
Phase 3 EF16
Art Tech Typhoon.
All can be had for £90-£115 but you'll need an rx (AR500?) and in the case of the Phase 3 models 2-3 9g servos which are also dirt cheap. All can be modified to have more powerful motor systems when you feel the need to progress. It really depends on what takes your fancy.

Parkzone Habu also gets very good write-ups but is more expensive than you say you want to pay and needs more gutsy 4s batteries.

Well timed thread. Looking at getting one myself. I am favoring the Habu, but the fact its on 4s is what is putting me off.

Looked at the Multiplex funjet... and that thing is just insane when it comes to speed! But, i guess it could be toned down a bit.

The other which i dont know much about is the Squall. Looks a nice plane aswell.

I spoke with Inwoods and they are selling a an ST MX2 for £104

Inwood Models : ST MODELS MX2 ARTF, INC 4X SERVO, MOTOR, ESC, PROP [KIST050] - £104.99

Looks neat, but i thing it could be easily out grown if like me you want it for some fun and not serious acrobatics etc.

Will be interesting to hear what others recommend

For what it's worth, I have a F27C (pusher prop delta, like the funjet) and while I found it fun for a while (it can after all go ridiculously fast), the lack of a rudder and the pusher prop limits the sort of flying you can do.

I've seen the MX2 flown by a couple of people locally, and they seem very happy with it. Top of my list of planes to buy for now.

I had a squall on 3s and thougt it was a bit gutless. The mx2 is great value but the under carage is very week, great plane 3d's well or just cruse :) Just got a funjet for some speed (trying not to smoke the motor again!!)
            Oxy4+, tgy servos, hw60a, spirit fbl on 6s 🤓

...yes, but check RCGroups.com for feedback on BH customer support and their claims of performance vs reality. You'll also need to factor in the cost of postage from the USA which is veeeeeeerrrrry steep.

                  +1

and dont forget customs, almost 90% of the things i get form US get hit by customs, a box the size of a plane is bound to get hit by customs even if it is marked as gift and low value.

i once paid £26 customs for a leather jacket my sister sent, which truly was a gift and cost $60.

                      Thanks for all the replies.

I was very tempted to buy the Thundercat after seeing the link Grant posted, quite impressive little aeroplane; but was put off by the customer reviews of the supplier.

Out of the others I'm liking the Phase 3 Squall the most.
Just going through the laborious task of cross referencing places to buy and reviews and the same for batteries.

Good call - F18s make for a good stable platform.

You might like to consider this, if it's not too late :

HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : Dassault Alpha Fighter 70mm Ducted Fan EPO Plug-n-Fly

There is a write about it in the Quiet & Electric Flight (June issue) described this a "Dassault-Dronier Alpha Jet" cost £179.99! HK selling it for £66 + postage - should be well under £100. Worth a look.
