Get it quickly fatmantom, it's going out of stock very quickly due to new models being brought out soon.

Once they are gone that's it.

Here's a good place to start...

Good Luck and you WILL love it :)

    Just a thought...

If your viewing distance is nearer 9 feet and over, seriously consider the 42" version shown here...

The new entry level Panasonic Plasmas just for you fatmantom :)

Of the 42 individual models of plasma and LCD TVs that Panasonic announced at the 2009 CES, the X1 series lives on the bottom rung of the totem pole. That didn't stop the company from endowing the plasmas with so-called Infinite Black technology, however.

The Panasonic rep explained that Infinite Black caused the TVs, when displaying a completely black screen, to basically fade down to nothing, as if the TV was turned off.

The new entry-level panels also improve upon the contrast-ratio spec for the entry-level PX80 range from last year, doubling it from 15,000:1 to 30,000:1 for the HD ready sets and to 40,000:1 for the Full HD set. The result should be excellent black-level performance for a relatively low-£ display.

All are expected to be available around late March with expected prices as follows:

      TX-P37X10 - RRP £699 (37" HD Ready)
      TX-P42X10 - RRP £799 (42" HD Ready)
      TX-P50X10 - RRP £999 (50" Full HD)

Notably, the X1 series lacks the improved efficiency of the company's higher-end panels, which are dubbed NEO PDP and supposedly consume half as much power as last year's models to produce the same light output.

There you go! Obviously, reviews have yet to be made and it doesn't always follow that a new model is better than an old.

These are the entry level Plasmas and if they are anything like the PX80 series they will be great but if you have a bigger budget you can get even better

          Gaz has the right idea.
Screen size is directly proportional to the viewing distance.
          Check this calculator out.
Hi Balders,

Obviously a 46" will fit your gap (so to speak :blush5:) but it's not about that really.

Having too big a TV will ruin your maximum viewing pleasure just as much as having one that is too small.

If you sit too close to a TV you will see the pixels which is not good.

            So, first things 1st:

            1. What will your viewing distance be?

            2. What is your budget?

            3. Do you intend to use a home cinema surround system?
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. My viewing distance is about 15 feet. Budget, well, to re-use an oft used phrase, I want to buy right, buy once, so March's pay packet see's my bonus being paid which will cover just about anything :)

Re sound system, I do have one (currently in the loft) but my current TV has a reasonable sound system (built in sub) and found I never really used it. For new TV, I would want the inbuilt sound to be reasonable enough for use when the nipper is watching Iggle Piggle (can you imagine the sounds from the Pinky Ponk through a sub LOL - any dad's out there will know what I mean...) but I'm happy to dig out the proper system when watching movies etc.

Had a look at some Sony's today, was able to compare 200mhz against 100mhz sets, really noticeable difference, the 200 was smooth like my CRT 100mhz, far less jerky than the 100mhz LCD.

My 51" gap would suit a 46/47" really well, a 52" would be probably just a bit too tight. Over to you guys for recommendations

                  Tough question really Tom.

                  What is your budget?

The new Panasonics may be better than the old models, they may not be - but even if they are, will they be £200 better?

The TH37PX80 can be bought for £500 whilst the newer model will be around £700.

All I can say is that I know you won't be disappointed with the PX80, they really are fantastic sets for the money.

One other thing that may affect your choice is that the newer models may not be available till April now.

If you do decide on the PX80 you really need to get it now as they are disappearing very quickly.
