anyone here ever bought one from the far east or built one themselves? If so I would appreciate reviews and comments - as considering doing either.

a big one ??? lol .... Valve amps produce a much cleaner, crisper sound than ya normally hear .. .They still make high end valveamps for audiophiles

A mate of mine has a NAIM audio setup, and the sound that comes out is so sweet... Until i heard it plugged into a valve amp. Now i am no audio expert, but even i could hear the difference in the clarity.

Well you could build a good one [or find a second hand one] for around a couple of hundred
(like most audio equipment the price goes up into the tens of thousands)
Should you be interested in building one, this is the kit I am currently considering: ST70 kit

I was halfway through building a 2kw Valve amp for ham radio, mate of mine was supplying the tech no how but it was one of those half unfinished projects that never ended.
I have to say in a ham aplication I always prephered the valve amplifiers to the solid state versions, always a much cleaner signal. All the best
Tony.

John my dad builds all valve guitar amps - check out mango-amps.com what he doesnt know about valves is not worth knowing. :) He's only a few miles up the A470 from you John?
He designed a 5 watt hi-fi amp for me - got all the parts but never got round to building it as I was given an Arcam power amp and have been using that. Really will have to give building it a go!
I do know that some of the cheap chinese stuff is not worth bothering with - lots of the chinese valve guitar amps sound bad - you do get the odd good one though!
There was a forum I used to go on alot years ago all about building valve amps but i cant for the life of me remember what it is called :(

wow - small world - that is just up the road :)
I am checking out mango-amps now. Some very lovely gear.
Would you mind asking him if a vintage allied 333 would be good for a pair of KG4 speakers? I think that should be ok - and quite a cheap setup. I am going with KG4 speakers, now struggling to match the amp though - which is why I though about building one.
And yet for the cost of the parts.... you can have delivered chinese amps - particularly [if you dont mind the wait] the ones from a seller called bid1bid2bid - but like buying helis from the far east - it is hard to know what is legit, and which sellers are reputable.

There is a handy website which I have been going through - diyaudio.com - check them out, maybe they'll be able to provide the tech help?

Hmm he doesnt really do alot with hi-fi- valve amps to be honest so probably wouldnt wish to advise on your speaker - amp matching. But if you need any technical help give us a shout :)
Oh and if you know of any guitar players who want the best possible sound give us a shout too :)
