I've been trying to register over the last week because I want to sell some planes, and my registration was rejected because the post code I gave didn't match the one on record for my membership number....... they had the wrong one on my membership details. I had to ring them up to change it (was easy enough) and then try re-registering which I did Saturday morning. Their system is obviously manual and not automated, and I'm not expecting a response till Monday morning.

I would rather it took a bit longer to register than having some half wit register with false details to rip me off. It puzzles me why this isnt automated though, it really wouldnt be difficult to setup a service which authenticates the user.

I am not registered on the BMFA Clssifieds site but have successfully sent messages to a few people wanting stuff. I can't believe therefore you cannot contact someone who is selling something.

How odd? Since my last post half an hour or so ago, I've received my confirmation email, and it's a Sunday morning.

                    Happy daze, I'm in.

Not odd really, I have just gone through the outstanding registrations. The BMFA classifieds is administered by a small team of unpaid volunteers, all of which are aeromodellers of one description or another, all of which have full time jobs and familes etc etc.

Most of the admin is done outside office hours as that is when we can find the time to do it. Usually however activations are done in a couple of hours, occasionally like this weekend it may take a little longer, one of the team is on holiday, one is at Cosford for the weekend and I didn't get back until very late last night from Cosford and decided I would rather go to bed than catch up with the classifieds admin.

The system for checking registration details is a manual system, however it is working pretty well and fairly quickly and as such there is no point in going to the expense of buying different software and integrating with the office database. At the moment the classifieds runs at practically no cost to the members and is ran as an extra service by the team as an extra benefit of membership.

I am however still amazed at the number of people registering who don't manage to provide all the required information.

I was disappointed to receive the following email this morning:

Thank you for your registration for the BMFA classifieds, unfortunately we cannot activate your registration as we do not allow the email addresses to contain "BMFA" as this may give the impression to people that an official is placing the advert. Please re-register with another email address and we will endeavour to activate your account as quickly as possible.
The reason I have BMFA in the email address is so I can detect where any spam has been harnessed from. Didn't see any guidance in the registration process which restricts what email address I can use. Might be an idea to add some guidance if this is the case!

I know you guys do this in your spare time, but you might help us to help you by including this kind of guidance! From your help document, there is no reference to this limitation.

Note: because of the spam/fraud problems we do not accept registrations from anonymous email services such as Hotmail. You must use a valid ISP email address. Unless you only ever access the internet from internet cafes then you will have a UK ISP email address available to you.
I am off to dream up another email address which hopefully doesn't contravene a set of rules I don't know about :P

Any other rules I need to know which aren't visible?
                          Regards,

Although I couldn't find anything about bmfa in a user name I did find this displayed on the help page:-

In order to use the classified ads system you must first register. We are using the latest upgrade as an opportunity to clean up the membership list which means that you must re-register even if you have been a member before. To register just click the register link at the top right of the page and fill in the details. Registrations are limited to BMFA members and the number you give will be checked against the current list before you are approved.
Note: because of the spam/fraud problems we do not accept registrations from anonymous email services such as Hotmail. You must use a valid ISP email address. Unless you only ever access the internet from internet cafes then you will have a UK ISP email address available to you.
Because we have had a lot of problems with scammers, we now require all accounts to be manually approved by the ads administrator. This normally takes place within a few working days but sometimes may take longer. You will receive an email when your account has been approved. If you have not received the approval message after 5 days, you can contact the ads administrator via email. Be polite: rude messages will result in your registration being denied...

Sometimes it helps to "click" on help and see what informatin is displayed. "Just smile!"
