I'll be honest, apart from keeping all the old electronics for the sake of nostalgia, I want to spend as little as I possibly can on it, so I'm going to see how far I can get with the original gear.

It's missing the boom supports and pretty much all of the linkages but I'm sure they can be grafted on from another heli or made to suit.

I'll strip it to a pile of bits and clean everything up, then see what's needed. No doubt it'll need new bearings all round.

I'm hoping the fact that the engine was never run will mean it never got the chance to rust but we'll see.

I just powered up the servos and they're all working, although a little slow.

I found the specs for them... It'll be like flying a bowl of blancmange

                Modulation: Analog
                Torque: 4.8V:
                33.0 oz-in (2.38 kg-cm)

                6.0V:

                42.0 oz-in (3.02 kg-cm)
                Speed: 4.8V:
                0.28 sec/60°

                6.0V:
                0.22 sec/60°

Insomnia got the better of me, so I decided to strip and clean the nexus. It was manky but once the initial layer of crud was removed, it cleaned up very well. I was actually pretty amazed. It took a fair bit of elbow grease but it looks like new again. The bearings are all good and the engine is as new, so I'll order the bits it needs next week and probably start the rebuild in a week or two.

I restored my original Morley MXA to flying condition last year. It was lacking in power (it actually uses a .46 aero engine!) had almost no tail authority and felt completely disconnected cyclic wise - however it was great to fly it again some 20+ years on :-)

I have a nexus on my shed wall.
it was what I came back to the hobby with the first time around.
I recently gave away my Space baron .30 which was my first heli and quite modern for its time -1991.I still have the mechanical Gyro it is great and makes whirring noises and everything I remember when I used to switch it on people (non RC) used to take a step back thinking the engine was going to fire up!

It is effectively new. It has never been run.

I got the heli from a guy who bought the kit in about 1995, built it to about 95% finished and after trying to fly his friend's heli and crashing it a few times, decided it just wasn't for him, so the nexus never even had fuel in it and was left to gather dust in a remote corner of his engineering shop. It sat there for about 17 years and a few months ago, he told me I could have it if I rebuilt it and got it flying.

                              Update...

The boom supports and a few of the missing pieces arrived yesterday, so I set about rebuilding it. I got it as far as I could but it still needs the servo linkages, a set of blades and the receiver and gyro fitting to finish the job.

I didn't like the look of the original aluminium boom supports, and rather than pay more than new price for a second hand set of original ones off ebay, I decided to chance a set of carbon ones off a T-Rex 600 but they've pushed the horizontal stabiliser back a few inches, so I'll have to see how it flies but I'll probably end up shortening them... or maybe use a smaller stabiliser.

It's looking a bit better than when it arrived.
