I have bought a 600esp & 450 3gx from this site & are great helis , also 450 sport v2 & 3 trex 100s of the bmfa site which all had issues , ebay has been a good source of spares , i guess you pays your money and takes your chances , as a newbee & knowing what i know now , I would buy S/H from this site with confidence , kenny d

Well I'm going to say a big public thank you to GIXERMAN for all the stuff I've bought from him this year.
Three helis at least, all flew perfectly out of the box and exactly as described.
Also no end of gadgets & bits and bobs, all in good nick & sensible price.
Plus loads of help e.g. sending me setup files for the TX, arranging meetings so I can collect heli personally etc.
Nice one mate, thanks a lot & have a good Crimbo!

I bought my first big one 2nd hand - didnt regret it, served me well ... I think its just a matter of who you buy it from ... I would guess most people on here wouldnt try to sell you stuff they wrecked ... on ebay though it may be different ... however advertising your gear to sell on ebay may reach a larger audience so not everything on there is doomed to be unwanted wrecks ..

i know the feeling mate, i dont buy secondhand unless it off someone i know or is well known as its more hassle then what it can be worth.
i have bought two heils off here on from Jack bishop which was perfect and another from Sao and that was perfect, but i got a few off ebay in the past and it would have been cheaper to buy it new buy the time i put it right!

Agreed, the only place I trust for 2nd hand gear is this place. Stuart et al have done a fantastic job of setting up and maintaining a good system.

It's not just the buying and selling here also. Several times I have been lent items (update dongles etc) or have lent items to other members, without any issue; people whom I haven't even met in person.

I once bought an OS "Hanno" Special through BMFA, previously owned by a known F3a pilot. He had cranked the plug and head bolts down so tight the plug thread hole and one head bolt thread were stripped. I had to get Irvine engines to sort this out. Would the seller have known he did this absolutely no doubt about it in my mind. Like the people who dent your car while it is parked there are shits out there who do not want to take responsibiity for their own actions.
I swapped a fully loaded Trex 600 for a Henseleit MPXLE with motor and controller. A lady friend of mine did the swap for with the guy who was in Scotland and did not know how to look it over. The lower frames have what are probably non structural cracks, and the canopy which is great when new had many multiple cracks in it repaired with the red bondaglass polyester car stuff, which wont stick to epoxy and is heavy. I have sorted the canopy out, but can not trust his build and have got to strip her down and decide what to renew. He did not answer any eamils etc and it leaves a bad taste that someone elses rubbish has been passed on like this.
I have only ever since then dealt either in person or with people I know I can trust
It is good to know that within this site buying seems possible with some confidence

I have generally had pretty good experiences buying second hand.

Its always a gamble buying second hand. Stuff is usually used, and has some element of wear in it or to it. If it was new then it wouldn't be as cheap.

For me the ratio of good:bad makes buying second hand a good deal. Certainly from here I havent had any issues, I should definitely not be as relaxed as I am with ebay/ bank transfers, and I am sure it will come back to bite me at some point, but I havent had dealings with anyone dishonest on here. Some have though, and there are appropriate threads.

Ebay I would be a bit more wary of. I have bought one heli, and a few fixed wings from there, and on the whole been satisfied, but I have always collected in person.

IMO any heli that you buy second hand needs to be stripped and rebuilt for my peace of mind... If I knew the builder really well then I might not do this, but its still probably worth doing, as we should all periodically go over our birds with a fine tooth comb.
