  • If you had to show someone just one video....

    Which one would it be??

I am giving a 30 minute presentation on the 9th November for a new job, and as it can be on any subject I choose so long as its a technical subject, I'm going to talk about my N5 and how all the components integrate and get it in the air At the end I would like to show a video showcasing what a model helicopter can do, and probably take a laptop in and let the Rent-a-Crowd have a go on Phoenix.

So do I show them an aggressive Tareq vid? Bert? Or some graceful 400rpm Timo Ventland??

If you had to show someone just one video....

I don't have good experience with showing hard 3D to people who don't fly. They don't get it at all, they think it's all about pushing the sticks quickly in random directions. They quickly get bored.
I'd look for some gentle but technical flight or a good funfly trailer.

Maybe show them a kit and then this video to show how it all comes together

LOL back when i first started. my very first attempt at a build and maiden. I got impatient waiting for someone to turn up at the field, so decided to check it over and fly it myself! I cant remember why now but for some reason i reversed a setting on the elevator swash mix and was convinced it was right of course pushing the stick forward tipped it over backwards (could have been quite nasty if I'd had more hieght

I showed a video of a Tareq flying something mental to a work colleague of mine once, who has no interest what-so-ever in model helicopters and he just sighed and walked away after about 90 seconds. He just didn't get it. Why would he? It doesn't float his boat. Don't assume your audience will be as interested in your hobby as you are.

Maybe, some really good scale flying like the excellent european turbine A109 on hillside somewhere, or one of Len Mount's creations would get them going - it's something they can see and believe in, and might actually get them interested. I'm not anti-3D, it's just that to the uninitiated, it's like a dying fly and makes no sense. You need to break them in gently.

But more importantly - what job are you going for that requires a 30 minute video on RC Heli flying? Surely you should be talking about yourself and how good you are rather than showing a video?

how about a video of a scale heli flying
the none heli flyer should find a model looking near to te full size they've seen in the sky flying more interesting
and at the end of the video show some 3d flying as to what can be done with a model that the full size can't do
unless you fly for nutters-r-us (red bull flight team)

Yep to get serious for a change. I would say 3D has to be seen in person to grab attention, video just doesn't cut it. As Steve says there are some very nice scale flying video's about, why not DL a few plus some 3D and make your own mix?

Is for a teaching job in the typhoon training school, they want to be sure I can stand up and speak in front of people, so the subject isn't really important. I have the job as long as I can do this presentation, just going to show a little bid at the end.
