      My understanding is it's

      Purple : weak
      Blue : medium
      Red : Strong
      Green : Seriously strong! :-D

My bottles are getting on a bit to be fair, but my red loctite is weak. I guess the only answer would be to read what is says on the bottle huh?

You can't rely on the colour to determine the strength, unfortunately, you need to use the grading.

Acetone can be used. although it doesn't actually remove loctite, the acetone brittles loctite thus reducing its strength.

If the part is aluminum care needs to be taken as using a heat gun on threaded aluminum isn't a good idea. Most aluminum derives its strength from elevated temperature aging. Even a lowly heat gun can over age heat treated aluminum, causing it to lose most of its strength.

I now have a couple of better quality Allen keys... but I have also just found this thread... seems I'm not the only one having the problem...

These Super Tight Feathering Shaft bolts and the stupid FS Wrench - HeliFreak

I'm beginning to think that I should just leave the soft black head dampers in and not replace them with the hard red ones... at least for the time being anyway. I'm thinking that since I'll not be attempting anything crazy for a while, I probably wouldn't notice the difference in the dampers anyway - except that the red ones probably make for a less forgiving but more responsive flight... if I'm honest with myself though, a more forgiving flight is probably a better option for me anyway.

I wanted to change the dampers, because I read that the black dampers are too soft and to swap them out for the red ones immediately - but then, the person that wrote that seemed to be a 3D guru. Anyway, I guess I shouldn't act on everything I read.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread, I have learned a lot - but I think me resolving my thread lock problem might be a battle for another day... a day when I really will notice the benefits of changing the dampers... which, let's honest, could be a while.

To be honest, i'd want to make sure I could get them out ASAP! The dampers wear on their own and you will need to get them out at some point.

Thorpe and Hudy I'd agree with, but the Swiss tools I got when FL first started carrying them are easily the worst investment I've ever made.

The best fit I've found was one of my less expensive purchases, the Align brand drivers.

I would like to know if I can get them out, but at the same I'm I thinking that I should probably get a few flights out of it before contemplating undoing the head, given the risk that I could damage something.
