Could any rain get in before the repair? It might be an idea to make sure things can't get worse. I'd get some proper advice perhaps a solicitor. Things could have been a lot worse.

This goes to show why insurance is so important.

I know I have bleated on about safety and insurance in other posts, so I wont go too far here this time, but you are really lucky all that was damaged was a roof.

You cant get insured retrospectively, for obvious reasons. Insurance with the BMFA would have cost about £30, and I think even less with the RCHA, and if you intend to fly again once you get your heli back then you are strongly advised to get one or the other.

With regards to the guy keeping your heli, well technically that is theft, so you could get the police involved, but then that would up the anti. The damage your heli (you) did to the roof would be deemed accidental, rather than criminal. You may find it pays to get them involved, but then you run the risk of them making a big mountain of the slightly smaller mountain of a mistake you made.

Sorry to be blunt, but what if it was a guys arm your heli hacked off, rather than a few tiles on the roof?... The civil damages from that would ruin you for life. Accidents happen, even to those insured, but those insured have covered themselves as best they can for the risk.

How far away from you was the heli crash & is any part of the throttle servo to carb broken
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

That's a very valid point about it not harming someone and I'm grateful for that but I honestly thought the insurance would be much more than that and never did I imagine that this would happen but then who does until it happens to them? Lessons learned here and when I do get my heli back I will be getting insurance before I fly again that is a certainty!

I am a reasonable person and have offered obviously at my own expense to repair the damage and quite rightly so but my worry is that I am going to be ripped off here by someone not letting me repair and them getting someone else to do it and charging silly money when it really isn't that bad...his reluctance to give me my heli back makes me feel like he has an ulterior motive when I have been honest and held my hand my hand and want to do the right thing...

We shall what transpires in the next day or so....no calls yet from the owner or brother....which is worrying me

I would get some free legal advise first thing tomorrow just incase things turn nasty, better to be one step ahead. I'm not 100% sure but not returning your heli could in effect be theft.

If they do get there own repairers you are in your right to get a buildings inspector to confirm the repair, it was purely an accident & if you've got buildings qualifications that carries letters after your name you can contact then for free legal advise.
