My gyro for my Cypher arrived to day. It is a snug fit in the frame on the gyro tray area; not tight but not loose either. Do I need some space so the frame isn't contacting the sides of the gyro or can I get away with it?
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.
Any vibes from the frames will be passed directly to the sensors like constantly tapping the gyro,probably not a good idea as you don't even have room to foam damp it .

In that case I am looking at relieving the frame slightly. Generally I hate to do this. There is nowhere else to mount it. I had thought of an extension tray perhaps; I could use a bit of spare plastic to make one. It's never easy.
Just had another thought - maybe a block of some sort, possibly high density foam to lift the gyro about 2cm where it will then clear the frame????
I know you have only just bought the gyro, but have you thought about an assan ga250?... I have one, and for the money they are surprisingly good, and I think a lot smaller than the one you have....

You could always "shave" a bit off the frames so that you have A mm clearance
I think 1mm (2x0.5mm) would give enough clearance. I dunno if there is that much available to take off. I might cut the frame back completely, Dremel it off, cos I don't think it will weaken it at all.

The gyro can go anywhere. All it senses is rotation and so long as the vertical axis through it is the same as the main shaft that is ok. The Assan gyro is very good but only gives a 3V output and you may need an amp (cost about £3) to convert the pulse from 3V to 5V. Some servos are ok. You may be ok with vibrations. People strap down the flybarless units to make them work. That should make them worse but it doesn't. You can try it out if you are brave enough with just a short lift off the ground. A block under the gyro would be a good solution. Hard foam might be good or a disaster, it's difficult to predict. It's about resonance, or the frequency it will vibrate at if you hit it, like a tuning fork or a swing. If the vibrations from the heli are close to the frequency it wants to vibrate at then you will have problems.

I've found this post for your gyro. It doesn't look too good I'm afraid and one of the posts says it needs vibration to work.
It will probably be very sensitive to temperature as it is an old design and not the new type of integrated sensor like the Assan 250. You will need to be either lucky or a good pilot to handle this gyro. Don't panic when it does a 180 on its own. Allow the gyro to cool down to ambient before using.
i have just got another cypher in that needed a small repair with an assan ga250 paired to a tower pro mg90s tail servo and it flies really well and it hasnt got an amp connected that i can see on my old cypher i had a gy401 on its side on the gyro tray which also worked well

It depends on the servo and the voltage you run it on. My DS520 needed an amp when run on 5.6V. It isn't very good that some servos work on 3V and some on 5V. Just because something works doesn't mean it will keep working reliably, it could be on the limit. I've not seen the input circuit for a Towerpro so I don't know what pulse it's designed for. I'm not sure how a gyro would work with it's axis at 90 degrees to the one it should be sensing??
