  • Lipo storage? Where to keep?

    Guys,

Im clocking up quite the collection of Lipos now, I have 4x6s 3000, 6x3s 2200 and 6x6s 5xxx.

Where do I keep them all? I have a couple of ammo boxes but they arent big enough to hold the stick packs fully assembled. I dont want to pull them off the cassette every time I dont fly for a bit just so I can store them safely.

Any recomendations of a longish box to keep them in thats lipo fire proof or at least resistant?

I keep mine under the pillow, that way I'll be the first to know if one bursts into flames during the night.

I have made a lipo storage box from a metal tool box.
I have sealed the lid (to make it air tight) and got foam cut outs for batteries.
Give me a moment and i'll post a picture.
I figure its better than nothing.

I always think about keeping my li-po's in the shed, but the temperature varies so much, gets mega hot in there on a sunny day, would it cause any problems?

I keep mine outside in my garage and they are fine. I did used to keep them in a big plastic case with foam like above but now I just keep them on the shelf. They wont spontaneously combust so they are fine. If I have a suspect one it goes for checking on in the salt water.

The temp variations we have are not enough Im told to cause an issue, that we will notice any ill effects of anyway. I did ask questions about storing cold but we are all good.

I keep mine in the cellar on the floor, in an ammo case or lipo bag and make sure there is nothing surrounding them. I also have 3 smoke alarms in there just in case. If i had somewhere outside i would keep them there, as although you may never experience it, the fire risk is very real.

Have also considered (and probably will) getting a fire extinguisher

Keep them anywhere but in the house and as for air tight containers i wouldnt use one as surely if the lipo goes and a chemival reaction ensues and gases are released into a air tight enviroment the container would eventually explode. I would of thought you would want the gases to escape thats why lipo bags let gases escape but keep any fire within the bag.

Maybe im wrong but if something expands ie gases it has to go somewherr

I keep mine in a plastic box in a cabinet which is built into the wall.
I am not that paranoid about storing lipos. I never charge inside, except small mcpx ones.

What I've learned a week ago when my packs have been decimated in a crash, is to carry a lipo safe bag with me all the time - just in case I have transport damaged lipos back home. I didn't have one, thankfully my club president helped me out big time with them.
