  • The Good and the daft (Limpy and Junior).

It's a lovely day (again) but the last of them for a while. Took Limpy (130X) and Junior (300X) over the field lunchtime.

Decided (for whatever stupid reason) to fly Junior first. It didn't last long and I'm going to have to check the video to find out why. Right now I can't even recall if I inverted him or not but it seemed to me he became very sluggish in control and started to roll to the right (as I recall it). I TH'd him and he plumeted to the deck. I seem to have blades intact but a broken link and one servo stripped. Bet your bottom dollar it's feathering shaft and main shaft AGAIN! Skid busted. Main gear is ok. I know Gary did a blinding job with him but Junior just does not seem to suit this learner (points at self). Everytime I take him out I bring him back in bits. Well, this may be his last chance. I do love BeastX and I really like Align. If I'm going to pay more to repair Junior than it costs to repair an Align 450 then I know what I'm going to go with and I know where the AR7200BX is coming from. I will NOT be sorry to see Junior broken for parts to be scattered amongst the forum members. There'll be a choice. I'll offer him up first as he is minus the AR7200BX but including 2 feathering shafts, 2 main shafts, 4 batteries and a main gear (I think I have one). It'll be silly money, too, but that's for another thread unless you fancy pm'ing me.

Right, on to Limpy the Olympian Gold Hound. MY GOD HE'S SO AMAZING!!!!! I've piled him into the deck over and over again today. Not because I'm a crap (shut UP Limpy) pilot but just to show you how durable this little guy is. The 300X is fragile in comparison.

Splat, up and flying. THUD! Up and flying. Weeeeeeeeeekerplunk! Yep, up and flying. All on video in glorious wide angle HD (ok, maybe that's not such a bonus).

I was inverting Limpy and (yes, Limpy, I know it makes you feel sick - TOUGH) trying to hold hover and control his flight and, at the very least, keep him in the air. By the time I got to the third battery I was actually managing to do just that. Even if he got away from me (Limpy! What do you mean by "That's what I was trying to do."? Honestly, no gratitude) I was bringing him back inverted, sometimes upright.

You know, you just have to do it to do it. You sit on the sideline and expect it to magically appear, get out there and try it, it's FUN! Just remember TH when going in. One of my inverteds I forgot IU (Limpy shouts "I know you did" then something mumbled). I was - Limpy was upside down and I was pushing to go down which is up when upside down (my head hurts) and I was slowly dropping. Yep, no IU. Reset Limpy and off we went again. Limpy took a lot of punishment but I started to come good. I mean, you can often do this in Phoenix till the cows come home (which they frequently do) but to do it in real life when the nerves are there and you are waiting to yank back on the elevator and move from + to - pitch in IU (yep, don't forget IU) then back to upright. Even if you crash it is still an achievement and it can only get better.

The little 130X flips so easily that it takes a huge dump all over the (Steve - covers Laz's eyes) mCPx. Get one. Improve it. Crash it. You can't beat it.

So, I should have flown Limpy first and then Junior and I might have stood a chance. Still not sure it was me though. Seemed to lose power. Will check video later.

I will post the video in this thread this evening but I will make it apparent that I have done so

I am SO hyped-up, pumped-up, overjoyed. YOU GOTTA GO OUT THERE AND DO IT!!!! LOL

I don't know, Junior just seems to be one of those middling creatures that seems to have no proper place (outdoors). Gary did fantastic with him but I don't have much luck with him at all. I get on with Limpy and Harry much better.

With your progress won't be long
I have a 250 that I don't really enjoy flying at the moment.

Oops! Had a full stop where I should have had a comma. Was referring to Junior.

Comps? No. Social phobia would kick in LOL. Statue contest, yes.

              Hi Vikki,
I was just about to remind you that you have another member of the family (re PM), then I thought I'd read your post instead, PHEW, lucky I did. I now now why poor sad, brokenhearted Junior was left off your list. I guess you can only repair one heli so many times after it has misbehaved. You don't work for blade inc. do you lol, you've got me wanting a 130x now and someone, who's name escapes me was posting the same this morning!! You need to be on commission I reckon. I pen them a letter forthwith.
Can't get hold of you know who at the moment, but will keep trying. Flying still on tonight, fingers crossed .
              See you,

No probs, Andy. Yeah, had enough of Junior now. I think with me he's cursed. He needs more experienced thumbs than I've got. He's quick but not tough.

Nice story Vikki, sounds like your getting on great with limpy - it is a great heli. I went out flying today too but left my limpy at home, instead I took out Mike (Ive just named him that, after tyson - because he gets beaten up all the time!) Cleatus (Because he is simple cheap and nasty) and Priscilla (because she's a bit of a shelf queen that I have a straight heart attack with every time something goes slightly out of shape)

Mike is my 500 efl pro, cleatus is an align 450 clone and Priscilla is my 700E V2. Took four packs for each and flew through (nearly) all of them and loved every minute of it. Not keen on the 450, so did a massive auto with that at the end of the 3rd pack and she tipped over and snapped a servo horn (Good old £1.50 servos haha)

The 500 I loved though, did my first aileron tic-tocs and a few more bits and bobs. Did some autos with that, spent the 4th pack just going up to 100 foot and autoing back down, but at about the 7th or 8th auto in Mike decided he'd had enough and decided to lay on his side shortly after I landed, causing a boom strike, a small dent in my tail boom and a snapped DFC ball link

Then I got the 700 out. Love that thing, Its massive, and so much fun to fly. Scary too. Was doing some real fun stuff with that (MASSIVE rainbows at full pitch with hard stops at each end which creates a thunderous sound!) but at one point I did get quite a tail blowout which made me feel sick! She likes to keep me on my toes...It was only about 20 foot up as well, and I was nearly on a knife edge as it happened but I managed to fly through it and promptly hovered the rest of the pack

Glad to see your getting out practicing and doing some flip flopping - having a heli you trust and feel comfortable with is of massive importance; Every time i fly Cleatus I feel like my flying takes a step back simply because it just doesnt feel nice to fly! Not sure if its the fact its flybarred and im not used to it...or that the tail isnt great, or any manner of things. I just know my flying is a lot better if I leave him in the house - so I may sell him like you.

Do you think you'll ever get a 700? I love mine. Its so easy to see what its doing in the air, it doesnt get away from you nearly as fast as the smaller birds do.

I doubt I'll go bigger than Harry. Might consider a 550 but at the moment I'm getting real comfy with Harry and Limpy.

Junior just doesn't do it for me, same repair cost as a 450 and twitchy for a flip-flopping learner. He seems to lack the power to get me out of trouble. Not sure what it is but I just don't like it. 450 Align, yeah, that'll do as the intermediate between Limpy and Harry.

Great to hear about your 700e. I bet it sounds ace.

Talking of curses, I was messing with the guy who bought my 450 pro FBL, as it just looked so stable and serene in the air ( his thumbs, not mine). Anyway, he landed it, replaced lipos & as he walked past me, I waved my hand over the heli and said " gypsy curse". He spooled it up and seconds later, the head exploded!!!! OOOOPS !!!
I felt bloody awful, fortunately, as time is a great healer, I was over it fairly quickly hahahaha.
                      Cheers,
                      Andy

Ive been meaning to get some videos of me flying for a while, but finding someone to do it for me is difficult and I dont own a headcam!

Fair do's about the 700...I do remember a while ago you saying you were only interested in scale flying though so you didn't need IU

Im glad your enjoying coming over to the dark side

Just been looking at it. What I was thinking of charging for Junior (£50) is actually a no go. By the time the buyer replaces the flybarless controller they wouldn't be that far off a new one.

HH must have got their parts real cheap to have got a profit out of that.

Junior is off the menu because I know someone who wouldn't mind the spares

Lessons learnt. But thanks to Blade for getting me into the hobby. But for anyone thinking about getting into the hobby, if you can build models, go Align. You'll end up with one anyway
If it's a jump in, jump out, Blade.

Aye, I'm interested in scale style flying but I'm also interested in dipping my toe into the icy waters of stunt flying and possible taking a paddle in the darker waters of mild 3D.
