  • Well I finally did it.

I got into this hobby at the start of next year, but for one reason or another I've not had that much chance to get up to Eagle RC Heli Club to progress my flying skills. Up until today all I have managed to do is lots, and I mean LOTS of tail in hovering...never quite having the guts to send her on her way and get into what had definitively become the very illusive forward flight.

The weather this morning was perfect and I had a spare few hours so I thought, what the heck, I'll go for it. I hovered a tank just to get my hand back in and had a couple of go's at a circuit but chickened out at the last minute. I was determined that today was going tom be the day so I fueled her back up and got her into the hover and then turned the nose to the left and off she went into a steady right hand circuit...not the prettiest, but definitely a full circuit...my heart was pounding but I finally did it...I have entered the world of forward flight. The only thing wrong was that there was nobody else there to see it, and then it started raining so i had to pack up!

I feel chuffed to bits and can't wait to do it again...
    cheers,

    Mick

I wish I could say the same about the circuit thing. Last weekend, or was it next weekend, can't recall LOL, I smashed my 550, when it fell out of the sky, destroying the little confidence I had. I finished rebuilding it at 4:30PM yesterday(Sunday 06/08/12), and found on spool up that the 1 way bearing was knackered, which is possibly why it fell out of the sky. I was full throttle, but it continued groundward.
Anyway, I digress, 6:35PM 06/08/12, I get her into the first hover, get her all trimmed in for 1 pack. Change packs, grow(well slightly swell) the pair I had, and go for it. Banking turns, ziggy zaggy sort of lines, (I blame the wind), 2 or 3 stall turns and blow me down , I smashed the bloody thing again. Just lost orientation, as the tail wasn't keeping up with the inputs I was giving????? I then realised, I had set the tail servo limits to 50% to stop the tail slider binding, DDDOOOHHH, what a dick ( less haste, less waste). I was quite prepared to launch the Tx, lipos, mangled Gaui, everything into the sea, but it was a bit of a walk and I had calmed down by the time I got there. The 7 fags at once may have helped. I am still wondering how you ever learn to fly these confounded things, without spending a fortune every flight. I was promised a buddy lead, by a friend(so, I didn't bother buying one), only to find it had stereo jacks on it, hence my solo ummmmm, solo eerrrrrr, just my solo really, can't really call it a flight, as such, per say, as it were!!
I have realflight and phoenix and can fly pretty well on both, but give me the real thing and I'm b*ll*cksed.
Spares are now on their way, so keep an eye on the for sale columns, just in case I smash it up again on Sunday. Don't worry, I'll be selling the "only ever hovered" ones, the Gaui 550 will be a submarine by then .
Right then, RANT over, wish me luck.
            Cheers,
Oh, and well done mickwilliams, on your upcoming circuits .

You will get better, your know when because the crashes get less expensive to repair LOL joking aside I'm sorry about your Heli, I think maybe you need a Blade MCPX or a 130x as when crashed most of the time you can pick them up and fly again and they do a lot for your confidence.
              Cheers Dave M.
