The sony LANC protocol is better suited to video cameras.. but there are some DSLR's that support it as well. The SONY LANC protocol I have already resolved zoom and focus using two RC channels and its real easy to do with a sat from a DX 8 as its a digital output.

This can also be a shutter release / focus command if the camera supports it..

Gadgets are fun you can have when there is no light to fly or the preciptation level is extreme...!

yea it would still have to have a motor drive on the zoom function on the lens no matter how you control it ...or its a digital zoom and thats super kak

Thanx cool wil try it out on my HD sony vidcam as soon as I finnish the SLR setup..I already built a 1 and 2 axis sonh HDR 12 gimbal so ready to roll on that...

and the both test gimbals on some shafts..

they are all direct connected so have used a servo slower down gadget to make it smooth

        cheers

That looks very cool thank you. Is there much slippage going on there and how slow and precise can you be with it?

              hey Paulo...

just finnished the final design on the Servo Zoomer....I made a pully to create some more reduction and cut a V shape for the Orings...ther is no slipage and very acurate..you can use the trim to move it microns if you need that kind of accuracy on the zoom...so used some bling blocks that I use on my Volt heli range and they look the part so now that gets a done stamp and will now start the pan system and camera balance rods with balance weights..as you fit larger lenses you need to counter balance weight or you have to muck around with trims to hold the servos and you get this servo buzz as its working over time..

here are the results of a few min lathe work on the pully and fitting...

              getting there now!

Thanx gents...here we go with the completed pan axis

....cut my own gears mod 2.5 with a 2:1 reduction and used an old 90 nitro swash bearing heat pressed onto a 8mm block of ali...I also had to smack it in with a hammer so wil never come apart unless you use a gas torch or are working rather close to hell and you camera will melt before the bearing pops out! so now only the Rx and Battery box with tripod mounting hole..will get that done next week sometime after Brian's finnished doing some field testing to see if we can make any improvements to the design and layout of the gimbal..
                  Cheers
