I am seriously considering one at some point but it would be a big investment,i dont want to really let anything go to free up components so it would need servos and a gyro and really i would need a couple more 3s Lipos


The deciding factor would be if i feel i can parkfly it because thats where i would be wanting it for mainly as i prefer Nitro at the field

If i cant fly it in a Park like i can the 450 then its of no use to me whatsoever,any leccy flying i do at the field is with the 600,a 500 would be pointless...

I need to see them and hear what people think to decide

I fly in parks in Poole when possible and there are people nearby most of the time...

Ok, Here is how I see the Trex 500

I would want it for the same reasons as you Chris. Park flying. I would fly it at the field but park flying is first choice. Now the Trex 450 is a great model, but it is far from accurate therefore I see it as a fun model. Something to have a bit of a laugh with. Trex 600e is a stunning ship but to get it to perform right you have to uprate the motor, esc and put a gov on it. Use good packs (Revo's) and even flybarless it.

As for the Trex 500, my concerns are these: I too would have to lay out all the money to get one flying which I'm happy to do, but it has to perform well on x2 2100 3s revo packs and standard align electric gear. They did it will the 450 (apart from it's inaccuracies) so hopefully they will do it with the 500. If I have to start upgrading the motor, esc like I had to with the 600e, I'm not too sure it's for me.

But I really want it to be good!!!!!!!!!

That sums it up really well,i am managing with the standard 600 electrics and its good enough for me,i am assuming that the 500 electrics will also be adequate like the 450`s

The 450 is indeed a fun machine and its the potential improvement in accuracy that the 500 offers along with park use thats drawing me towards one,everything else about the model seems pretty impressive..

It certainly does look impressive, but as I said the crunch is it HAS to perform well on standard gear.

Ideally you would use 2 identical 3s Lipos but i assume there is no harm for say using a Revo 2100 and an Electrolite 2200 to make a set,or a new revo 2100 with another Revo 2100 that has had a fair few cycles,is this a fair statement?

Yes you can use unmatched lipos, even slightly different sizes. All you HAVE to make sure of is you don't run one pack too low and damage it.

I'm getting 9650s as I've seen 600s 3D using them on aftermarket frames. If they can fly a 600 then they can certainly do a 500.

If you're going to use 9650s, make sure you get some spare gear sets as they will strip in even the lightest of bumps. Nice servos though. I use them in my Vstabi Logo14.
The Hitec 5245MG is another good servo this size and considerably cheaper. I have them in my flybarless Trex600 and they seem to cope with my rough 3D flying. There is quite a bit of backlash in the metal gears, but I don't notice it in flight.

This is not a general release but a few kits which are going out to Align sponsored pilots, Align UK are also getting a few into day to be sent out to sponsored pilots, I will also be building one up tonight:-)
