that's your choice, as we've said, the 9257 will give adequate performance for most people's needs, a std servo will perform better.

perhaps. But id sooner look back at the gyro too as it really is a combination of the two factors.

In my opinion Gyro choice is a major contributor to tai perfofrmance on this heli.

not at all. every gyro has its issues. some are good for hold, others good for piro, some are pickier than others etc

Whatever ya want ot fly, but goign for another servo to make up for a less than ideal setup seems bizarre to me

myself,stu and barney had a somewhat wet but good day with the 500.

nothing has changed on the lipo front really but my dampers lasted 7 flights in total and were shot completely.

thanks to a stu moment of brightness (he doesn't have many, ask him how the flybarless is going and draw your own conclusions) he suggested the old tape it method. i must say this worked a treat btw and it will be staying like this until someone makes proper dampers. the tape makes the spindle a neat fit in the block.

should also add guys, the dc-up saved my arse today, the voltage went down to 3.5 according to it once during a flight. i sense a better esc in the offing.

Brief impressions

Hi trvo/Ash..made the 300+ mile round trip to Waterfoot to get a little hands on with a 500.

Did you guys try back flipping with the 4200's??????..it's not rotating over the mainshaft as such..fine in forwards..also the rolls are being compromised. When the 2500's were used it was fine

With the 4200's the rotor speed retention is very good BUT In flight it does feel to me like the rotor disc is a little small for the AUW in that the blades seem to be cavatating a lot in the stops as you come through your downwash..In tic-tocs it's just not able to change direction as sharply as it should with a tendancy to drop out a fair bit meaning you have to really work the model.

With the 2200's and especially the 2500's all of the above was superior with the exception of rotor head speed..

I would just like to thank Paul for entrusting me with his model..and supplying the excellent flying weather..LOL

In the 4 mins I flew the 4200s the things I noticed were:

Far better rotor speed retention than when using 2200s.
A slight heaviness in tic tocs which the model handles but it could be sharper.

Interestingly I found the model harder with 2200s as it is significantly tail heavy on Trev's setup, so it has elevator tendencies and the roll and flip issues you describe. Also, if you try something like a big ben the model loses too much headspeed on the downward section and will try to dropout, where as the retained headspeed on the 4200s carries it through better.

Didn't notice any flip tendencies or roll tendencies, but it doesn't suprise me that you noticed some issues on Paul's 500 where as I didn't on Trev's. We know from the earlier posts that Paul's heli is nose heavy with the 4200s but due to different component location and a standard servo on the tail Trev's is almost exactly in balance.

Trev brought his 500 to DMHC mini flyin yesterday & he showed me the CG with the 2200 cells in & it is VERY tail heavy.
Trev has a full size servo & full size servo mount which is set quite a fair bit back on the boom. The heli flies very well on his setup as was demonstrated to us all & boy can he fly it.
I guess at the end of the day it is all going to be down to personal choice.

Will the 6s pack fit on the top tray or does it need to go underneath or will it fit either way?

it might be hard to figure out where the pack will fit long term. i'm not sure if there is an accurate measurement for the pack availale yet. sure we know the manufacturer specs but they i assume have not taken into account the puff after the first charge.

No need to be cynical, everything deserves a chance ...I'll run it on the balancepro and cellpro which will give it the best chance of survival. We'll only be drawing around 30A (EDIT: 60A) max out of it according our earlier datalogs which gives plenty of breathing space.

It will fit on top and underneath too, I think the best position will be on top for balance. I am unable to tell the balance since I've got a broken 500...
