  • Trex 500 EFL Pro DFC head setup

    Hi All.

Just installing a new DFC head and have a few questions.
I cant get the main gear on with the small spacer on the main shaft at the bottom or top. Its just too tight and cant get the bottom Jesus bolt in. With it out there is a tiny bit of up and down play in the shaft. Is this a problem?
Also when I bolted the blade grips on the feathering shaft the thrust bearings are a little nothcy. I have always had this even on the normal head with new thrust bearings. It is as per the original manual with all the correct spacers and lube. They blade grips move freely just a bit notchy.

Also there is 2 long and 2 short ball links on the swash. The old push rods for the blades went on the short and the wash out arms went on the long. I put the DFC arms on the long ones as it was a straighter run. The short ones have the DFC arms angled a fair way in. Does this sound right?

Any other things I need to change or look at for?

    Cheers

Have you ordered theses Main Shaft Spacer H50157 - Align T-Rex Spares align trex 500E Pro - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk these should take out the play.
Connect the head to the shorter ball links as this will give better servo resolution.
Unless you have serious problems I would not be bothered about the thrust bearings.

I have the thin spacer that came with the original kit. Is a little play a problem? Guess it has to be less than .3mm. Have put new main bearings in as well so maybe get it in after a few flights and things settle in.
Will move to the shorter ball links.

Guess the thrust bearings don't move much.

      Thanks

problem is the play is too small to get it in. tried for about 1/2 hour and just couldnt get the Jesus bolt in through the main gear

Your better of to have minor play than to fit the shims & have none, the links need to be on the shorter swash balls.
There is something defo wrong with the blade grips to be lumpy as they should be nice & free (loose) with no friction feel to them, did you get new dampers with the DFC head as the DCF head has its own dampers
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Got 7 lipos with the new head this morning. Other than the blades now dont clear my laptop screen anymore when sitting on the table and my flight bag being easier to zip up with the shorter head couldnt tell a lot of difference but then I'm not at a stange to really tell. Does look good.
Couple of other things I noticed. The cyclic seemed to be a lot slower. I reduced the expo back to zero to give a bit more feel. Was some of the smoothest 8's I have down so can't be all bad. I will speed it up in the 3Gx before next flight.

Also the main shaft has about twice the burry above the Jesus bolt. The normal head looked marginal to me. This looks much better.

Think I got the blade tracking fairly close. Still had a little bit of backwards drift but only showed up after a few flights. Doesnt sound as quiet as it used to so going to have a go at changing main motor bearings next week.

              Cheers

                  Hi All.
Why I might not be able to offer any useful advice on the flying characteristics of the DFC head I have noticed a few things.
The head is obviously lower but the shaft also has more bury above the Jesus bolt which I like.
When lining up the old and new shafts at the collar I also noticed it is shorter at the bottom which is why Maybe I had trouble getting the spacer in.

                  This I didn't expect.

I have increase the roll rate and cyclic travel another notch as I felt the DFC head had slowed the Cyclic down a little so will see how I go on the weekend.
