Having just got back into the hobby RTF or 2nd hand pre-built are tempting. However I would recommend buying new a building if you can afford it.

You get to understand what the set up process is like, plus you have assurance the build is of a good quality.

A Trex 450 will serve you well - depending where you are flying, conditions and space available.

I plan to add something similar sized to my fleet for less windy days so I can fly closer to my house.

I'm pretty much looking at the trex 450 but to be honest the options are over whelming. Do I get kit form and build, or a rtf version, and indeed which version... So many. But any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated.

You want to build it imo, I enjoy the build as much as i enjoy flying And theres plenty of help/advice here for anything you're not sure of

You won't go far wrong with any of the trex 450 kits, My clone SE V2 is mainly align now converted to fbl with a dfc head and a beastx on board, its been flown loads and only crashed twice in about 14 months both through pilot error

      I wouldn't part with it.............ever

      See you on phoenix sometime?

Once you add it up its not that much better:

          £179 posted
£65 for align servo's (or around £35 second hand)
          £55 Align 3GX.
          £20 rx

Total: £319 (with new servo's and a cheap spektrum rx.)

Plus the one that you have linked is a V1, the v2 is better designed for flybarless as you get a place to put 3gx, beastx etc inside the frame!

          The v2 is £360 Align T-Rex 450 Pro V2 3GX Super Combo

          With everything bar rx.

Thanks Liam, thought it looked good but once you add it all up it doest seem that good.

So my dx6i came with a spare receiver if I remember right. So all I would need yo pay out for with the linked model is a couple of batteries and a charger?

              Yes, then

Also on the charger don't get yourself a cheap charger. I got one and do regret it as its £30 wasted as i want to upgrade it now! I've found HKs' Tunigy batterys are fine, come down warmish but they are rather old!

Do some research on it, its a great learning tool and will teach you the basics up to inverted flight without breaking the bank.

what has been suggested is fair enough trex 450 etc good little helis, but they will cost maybe £30-40 for an average crash and you will crash learning. you will have to have a decent knowledge of setup etc as they come in kit form and require building, set up etc
+1 on the mcpx. mine will crash into hard walls and concrete floor and normally just requires a link popping back on. Though i think as others have suggested if you have the addiction already then a 450 with a decent tx, some training undercarriage and a space free of houses to fly in! will be a good move. get a good sim and get as much stick time as possible. I would suggest getting a kit rather than a RTF as you will learn a lot about the mechanics of the heli and how it all goes together so while you perfect your nose first landings its easier to know what bits you need to make her right! Saying that though it is a steep learning curve and can be quite time consuming but the sense of achievement is awesome when you build from scratch and fly for the first time. It's not for everyone but it is worth considering.

Whatever you choose have fun and happy flying.

Thanks all, can anyone recommend a good charger for my mcpx and trex 450 battery where I can charge multiple batteries at the same time? (So each battery stops charging when full)? So many options and brands...

Going with a trex 450 just need a good charger. ...
