Hi guys,

Always been interesting in rc helicopters so purchased myself a lovely shiny new honey bee cp3. I've been using the training software and slowly, gingerly hovering my new prize possession around the garden. I'm running the controller in mode B and though I know I'll try it in mode a(I'm sure you all know what's coming) so like a complete newby pillock I switched the switches with the controller on and the battery on the heli connected. My heart sank as my prized possession shot up in the air for me to only stand there open mouthed as it smashed itself all over my house roof. By the time I got to my roof, it was a twitching mess of broken parts and burning smells.

Anyway moving on and this being my forth flight and first major crash, what do I do? Do I try and rebuild by replacing the parts? Is it a wright off? I know it's hard to tell but what's the best way for me to move this forward.

Sorry mate but I had a good laugh of whats happend!! I did the very same thing last year with a Blade SR, felt such a plonker! (what does this switch do) I found out.
Me I just plod on re-build its the only way to learn by Mistakes, ps Welcome

Get rid of it and get a proper heli:

Either: A Blade 450X RTF with DX6i
An align trex 450, with a DX7s that comes with a free phoenix sim
A DX6i and MCPX

Regarding rebuilds, I'm presuming I need quite a few bits, can you get sets anywhere or do I have to order part by part, again a newby, but wondering if you can purchase a set of core parts

They are golden and very helpful, they'll sort you out! You can buy individual and core parts.

Parts tend to cost a lot compared to a new heli. You might find that a new heli is cheaper, or a secondhand one. Have a look at the better clones like the Gooch from helisfromdevon. You'll be learning about trex 450s. Very cheap clone bits on GiantCod/Shark. Quality variable.

If it smelt of burning i would say just replace the whole thing as thecost of parts will prob be 60-70% of a new one. But keep your old for spares. But as others say its time for a 450 really

Is a 450 really that much better? In what ways? And would you seriously recommend a 450 over a cp3 for a complete beginner?

Yes i would recommend it with a training undercart. Will tech you to fly properly and will last you along time.
Will handle wind better and give you a better experience.

I had a blade cp pro 2 as my starting point, but before I even wrecked it I realised a 450 clone was the way to go

I went for a Gootch 450 sev2 and spent several weeks accumulating electrics for it

This was the best thing for me to do as the little cp was a full time job just to hover it

If I'm honest there isn't much Gootch left on it as I've replaced virtually everything as I've needed bits, I've just made the jump to flybarless and I couldn't be happier with it

I'd say so mate, if I were you I'd go for a flybared version to begin with and get a basic understanding of it before going flybarless

No because the 450 plus comes with a futaba transmitter (a very basic one).

A 450x and DX6i or DX7s shouldn't be much more expensive, and will fly better.
