  • New motor for my TDR Courtesy of Scorpion.

    Check this bad boy out.

Scorpion HK-4535-550KV (Limited Edition)-Sold Out - Scorpion Power System

Going to try and see how fast we can go with this bad boy and it would seem this motor is the one to go for with a 160a ESC. We gonna be breaking some speed records, well thats the plan anyway

OK so I hate you because you have a TDR, and now I hate you more because you're putting a mega motor in it too...

And I thought I had insane motor in mine (4530-540LE)
Make sure you have frame stiffeners installed and preferably new black intermediate main gear . Don't forget to post a video, you should easily get 100 mph + with this one.
What pinion do you plan to use?

I have a 14t in there atm so will keep that for now as we don't want to be going much over 2200 Im reliably told.

But Scorpion are going to try and make the motor a 530kv if possible. They will test it first and if all is ok it will be a 530kv and a 1 off but if testing not good then it will be a 550kv as per stock specs.

Bens TDR has already done 134mph, few mods to the air frame and this motor and we should be allot quicker.

Did you look into the powercroco's, I thought they had ones more powerful than scorpions.

Powercrocos are scorpion motors just with custom windings

what's the usual headspeed to run on a TDR then and what makes them so fast?

Sorry for the silly question. I'm still trying to get my head round people using monster motors but still running the same headspeed.

More torque which means you can run more pitch without bogging the motor....................I think that’s the crooks of it.

Im not sure on the usual head speed on a TDR, Im just learning with them but I think its a max recommended of 2000 although in the manual I think it says 1900.

As for what makes them so fast again I'm not sure but would imagine the the way its angled forward has a lot to do with it. When its sitting flat on the floor the head, blades etc are tilted slightly forward. I imagine the gear train also helps. As for motor, more torque and power will keep the head speed etc or something like that.

Im sure someone who knows more about them will give some real info

What makes it quick? Combination of drivetrain, shape, low head. Main shaft is 90 degree not offset to mainframe so doubt the look on the ground has much to do with it. If you maximise efficiency of the power train and reduce parasite drag your going to be quick. There will be a point where more power won't equate to more speed due to aerodynamics but fun trying. Also consider higher headspeed will help delay retreating blade stall and reverse flow.
