i bought one of these too (from a well respected US store recommended by forum users) and it went BANG the first time i tried to plug one of my Opti 5000 6S EC5 connectors into it

i did nothing wrong, balance plug in first, polarity correct etc etc ......a spark, a flash and pop and game over - i was lucky the battery was ok.

lesson learnt and ordered the proper Revolectrix board now. i will make up my own connectors as i've got pretty bloody good at soldering due to this hobby

That would be because you potentially had a huge current rush through the balance connectors. The MPA board with it's poly fuses limits this current rush between packs and saves any damage to the pins and balance connectors.

Just a note on the latest batch of boards, the poly fuses are black to start with not red, I have checked with Andy at Optifuel who has confirmed this ok, the fuse will go red in the event of an error.

the info provided with the said balance board actually instructs you to plug the balance plug in before the power plug. the balance plug was fine, it was the EC5 on my battery and balance board that were fried. i've also had the exact same thing happen on a deans balance (battery fine, balance plug fine but connectors fried )

Take the back off, chances are they have shorted the connection with a solder joint.
