  • Night Flying

    Evening all,

just got in from our club bonfire night fly-in. What a buzz. We had a bbq, massive bonfire and plenty of fireworks. There were 3 of us helis flying, and 4 or 5 planes. it was incredible fun, especially when me and a zaggi were flying through the fireworks! I was only flying my 450se v2, but now im seriously thinking about some 600mm night blades for my t-rex 600! Who else here has tried it? If you havnt, i seriously urge you to, its not difficult, or nerve racking (as long as you use some decent light wire and position it well), and at this time of year, night time is the best time to fly, very little wind, no-one else to take your flying slot at the field, just great fun!

Anyway, heres a little pic i took on my phone, hopefully some others from the club have some pics.

Got my light wire on order from china and Suss*x models have the blades, have seen night flying with heli's a couple of times and I reckon its worth a go!!!!!
Used to fly combat wings up the slopes at night, used to be dodgy for landings but you could always find the model.

Illuminated tail blades Daren? Would they be the Dream Designs blades? Are they any good as I was thinking of getting some?

I am not sure if Jamie is using the same kit as me. I contacted surelight.com and got an evaluation kit, I had to modify the invertor (glow rope driver) as it was originally driven by 4xAAA batteries, I now have it converted to run from the RX and got rid of the big plastic box it was in.

On my way home last night around 22:30, temperature was -2°C and I decided to stop by a park and have a couple of flights with me lights.........I love the night rex at the moment, it feels so much faster in the dark.

                  Hi

We just got the Align 600mm night blades in stock so I will be trying these soon, they look really good and I suspect there going to fly nice as well, anything has to fly nicer than the MS night blades anyway:-)

I have used the Align night rope on my 450 SE V2 back in the summer so will slap the same on the 600N, might even do it tonight if I get time.

                  Cheers

Yes, I've found the MS blades now. Got some of the DD ones coming anyway. The MS are bit big for the Logo10 I use for night flying.

Anyone tried these luminous night tail blades?
They come with a UV LED that keeps them charged up, but if the electrickery fails they keep glowing for a while so you can land.
                      Sounds interesting.

                          I've just got some
I hope to be flying them this weekend...
The glow in the dark versions are just like Indiglo stuff - i.e. shine a bright light on them for a while to "charge" them up, and away they glow (sorry )

I'm not overly keen on the idea of sticking the supplied LED onto the boom to shine on the blades in flight (mainly due to needing a 12 volt (lipo) supply which I don't already have on my 600 nitro!), so I'm hopeful that a long enough "charge" will last for a nitro flight.

I've only tested the glow duration a little bit indoors so far on the Trex450 blades - but after holding the blades (fitted to the heli) up to the light for maybe a minute at most (more like 40 seconds...) they glowed easily strong enough to last a flight on the 450...

I'll post my complete review of them on www.50-tuning.com when it is complete
                          Cheers,
                          Rob

by "hold up to the light" do you mean the supplied LED hooked up to a 12v supply?or any old light such as your car headlight?

Can you test night fling with only these tail blades and night main blades? I'm wondering if that might be interesting and saves stapping all sorts of bits on the rest of the heli! I reckon I'd need a glow stick on each skid as well.

I held them up to the room light (I was indoors )

I have some more glow rope coming to be used on my 450 - however, I will have a "hover" with just blades on (main and tail) to see how it feels... I recall having a hover with just mains on and rapidly thinking it was a bad idea as it was too dark to see much of anything, and my usual takeoff involves pirouetting - bad idea... I landed safely, and unclenched

                              Cheers,
