ordering from hobby king

well i dont hnow if hobby king has a good or bad reputation i do know ill be ordering 1 of theese very soon ill build it over the 12 week summer holidays i get begging in may HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : HK-450GT Pro 3D Belt-Drive Helicopter Kit (Align T-Rex Compat.)

I've had loads of kit off there, including 2 HK450GTs.
Personally, I'd get the torque tube version simply because it's 100% compatible with Align, the belt version has a different back end. I'd also get Align main, feathering and tail shafts as a bare minimum, the HK ones are pretty poor, normally. Use the HK ones, but be prepared to change them during them build.

i'm a big fan of hobbyking (no really? I hear you all cry!!) and service is excellent. touch wood iv'e never had any issues in over 60 orders placed. not good if you'e impatient nowever, most orderes take 2-3 weeks and at christmas time even longer.

Seen a few flying and have to say set up properly you'll not see much to choose between one and an Align Trex 450. But the quality of the components is a tad at the low end, you do get what you pay for, and compatability with Align makes it an easy maintenance option. Buy with confidence just don't expect micro precision engineering and you'll not be disappointed.

I wholeheartedly agree, not align quality but not align price either. and you are right, set up well they fly extremely well even with a cheap as chips gyro.
I have the 450GT and to be fair it's served me well, now converted to FBL with a TAROT head it flies even better for very little money. evn the GF 325 blades are excellent and it WILL hard 3D, iv'e seen it do it (with Chris Jones flying)

Bank on changing out the dreadful skids and the ever wobbly main gears, oh and the dampers, and probably the feathering shaft and it'll be fairly sweet.

the model flew well rich, just need to sort that little bit of slop out and it should be close to flying a top end align

i have 64 orders with hobbyking now. i don't even want to contemplate what that adds up to money wise. although i have never had an item not arrive my advice would be don't order anything you need in a hurry. i have had items arrive within a week from ordering and then ive had orders sit in their warehouse for nearly a month before they even get posted. you really do pays ya money n take ya chances with hk i think. customer service,well,in all this time i've been a customer of theirs i have never found their support service very good. you either get told something you already know,over and over again or you hear nothing back at all.

i have found you are far more likely to receive the answers you might need in their forum.
one last piece of advice....unless you are prepared to wait a bit longer than normal for your order to arrive,dont include any battery's in your orders,it will take much longer to arrive....ask me how i know!
If you can put up with all that then hk is a great place to shop. id much rather spend my money in the uk but untill we can compete with their prices over here,i will continue to use hk. ( at least untill the uk branch opens anyway!!)

again i totally agree. Strange you should say that about the UK warehouse, they were recruiting for UK based staff a couple of months ago but iv'e heard nothing since.

I'm wondering why batteries take longer to arrive, I will however monitor that as i placed an order monday for 2 x 5000 6S 40C zippy's for the 600.

the branch planned in blackpool fell through,its now going to open in felixstowe very soon.they are advertising on their main page for staff right now. id love to apply,but its too far away for me to get to. as for their batterys,some time ago hk post decided they would no longer carry lipos due to some new regulations or something so now they all get sent via swiss post which takes a while as it ends up in zurich for a little holiday before it gets sent on to the uk. i ordered the axn floater quite some time ago and without thinking added batterys to the order and paid before i realised what id done. if i had been on the ball i would of ordered the batterys on their own and just swallowed the extra shipping cost.... it will all get here,its just a case of when! (assuming customs dont get their hands on it!)
