  • hehehe, when I did my B, it was about 20mph with gusts to about 22-23mph

When learning its best to not even think about A's and B's, just learn to fly, if you are constantly thinking about them its going to make it harder for yourself.

Learn to fly well past the standard then take the test (A or B), then you wont sweat it, a lot of people pile on the pressure on themselves to take the test ASAP, which means they are going to only just be able to do it, if things all go well.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

    • You are assuming that people will find it easy to get PAST their A standard.

Many people find that hard enough in itself.

      • As I said earlier, dont even think about A certs while learning, just get on with learning, there is no rush, when the person is regularly flying circuit work, and they are showing ability above A standard as it currently stands, then they should go for it.

A person I know did his A on a Hummingbird FP before the rules changed to say it had to be outside, he was not in a rush and just breezed through it, and was and is well above A standard.

Too many people put too much stock in it to early.

        • Wow, Just got back from a few days away,
          What a thread.
          Is an A test worthwhile?
YES of course it is, I passed mine recently and yes I found it hard, controlled flying at slow speeds is difficult to learn. Passing the test gives you a real confidence boost, and a sense of achievement.
Does it make you a better flyer, Of course not, that will only come with practice, but as with most learning curves, some encouragement along the way does help. As for what manouveres should be in the test, for me personally, I do not think that nose in hovering is essential, most people I know have gone from passing the A to gentle circuits and improving control, I can do nose in hover for short periods, and will continue to practice, and when I feel confident enough I will aim to pass a B test.
Until then, I will continue to ENJOY the hobby which is my main aim, any progression I make in turns of new manouvers I can do will be practised with the assistance of others, just as I have done so far.
