  • Passed my 'A'

    Awesome, buzzing now for real.

I had booked some time with Dave Fisher for a lesson and had mentioned I was interested in taking my 'A' test. Was a bit gusty but I had my 600esp there and a couple of usable packs to fly it on. Long and short of it all is that I passed so have that pink slip of paper

I started flying on the 17th February so the date today is the icing on the cake really

Thanks guys. I never knew I'd be so nervous though. Proper shaking legs on the 8's, not been so nervous since I took my driving test lol

The best bit of the session though was getting Dave to fly my 600 for me. I had worries something wasn't right with it as I don't really like flying it. So he copied my setup onto his TX and tweaked it. I had the swash mix wrong, and the head speed a bit high. So he changed a few things and then I got to see what the 600 can do. OMG I so wish I could do half of what I saw him do. Anyway he's copied the settings to a spare memory back on my TX so I can have a go and try it myself.

Thanks. To answer your question though, no I don't use Phoenix, well not much at all. For some reason I just can't get on with the sim. I'm 35, I just didn't grow up playing as many computer games as the younger generation. Instead I put in the flying hours on the helis. As an example since the 7th August, split between the TT360 and the 600esp, I've logged 48 flights totalling just under 6.5hours all together. That number would normally be a lot higher had it not been for holiday, crashes grounding the helis, and lipo issues. I just fly a lot.

Just too old I guess ?

Thanks for that also. Me too regards the sim, just can't hack it and rely on real time flying like you, but just don't seem to get the time in due to weather and recent back problems ( glued to me matress lol ) Started last August for real and got up to lazy 8s and very shaky circuits, hit a plateau, then go backwards after a few ground hardness trials. Maybe at 70 the old dog just can't learn new tricks eh ?

Well done. I remember you were worried about not practicing enough. There is something about tests though. I completely soaked a shirt when I did my electric A.

Have you sorted out the lipos?

And Cagey, you are never too old. I'm 62 and managing to fly ok. It just takes longer as you get older so you have to practice more. As far as the sim is concerened it is different from the real thing, mainly to do with pressure, but once you feel confident with flying a manouvere I think its easier in real life than on the sim. When you aren't, its easier on the sim. But flying the real thing doesn't mean you can fly the sim or the other way round. I know in the early days I found the difference between the two very confusing. Now I find the sim useful and mistakes I make on the sim I repeat with the real thing and vice versa.

Yeah I was really panicking I wasn't doing the 8's right, but in reality it's a lot less fussy than I thought. Still had very shaky legs though.
