  • I want to feel a bit wanted- is this wrong?

I am debating which heli to add to my fleet and called a shop yesterday to basically ask if I could give them a lot of money and could they do a package price for me. I was after the heli kit as well as everything to get it off the ground, all the high end electronics and servos to make a pretty blinged heli.

I was offered 5% discount which is OK but not great on the amount I was looking to spend, but it was the general lack of enthusiasm for a potentially big sale that left me wanting to buy elsewhere.

I want to be reeled in and helped, told what a great choice I am making and generally enjoy the purchase of a new heli-I want them to want my money. It's a big purchase and does not happen very often.

As a result of this I have been having a rethink and still cannot decide between...

Blinged N5C ( a bit exotic and not cheap)
Trex 600E FBL ( good value and will fly well)
Fusion 50( not totally convinced after the build on my Velo90)
Trex 550 FBL ( best value of the lot and probably still great fun)

I like the research and the decision making- I need some enthusiasm when I call up to make the order. The last helis I have bought have been from AlignTrexUK who gave great service on my 700, then Skyline for my Velo90 who again gave great service. Perhaps there is a difference between who I buy helis from and who I buy parts from as the type of service I want is different.

    Just a little whine- sorry

Trex 550 FBL. If you have a 90 size, you really wont appreciate a 50 imo.

      VBar full size
      Kontronics ESC
      Scorpion 4025-1100
      Outrage Hi-Torques all round
      EDGE blades

This is an interesting point. I think it's easy sometimes for those running a business to forget what it's like being a customer. And I say this from the perspective of someone in a business where I don't usually have to interface with the customer but it makes me think more about
how I might be able to make my customers feel more welcome.

If I was working in an RC heli shop the problem wouldn't be a lack of enthusiasm it would
be that I have too much enthusiasm and would spend all day chatting away about helis!

I guess you'll find that there are some stores who are more used to taking orders by phone rather than making sales that way.

Net result is that they feel a long phone conversation while calls are waiting is stopping them taking orders. Not a helpful attitude when you want to be sold on something, but I can see how it happens.

              Call Midland Helis...

They'll talk for hours, offer you a virtual cup of coffee and before you know it, you'll have bought ALL FOUR of your choices!! They'll even give you a virtual hug on the way out...

Why? Have you no self confidence in your decisions? Didn't mummy praise you enough as a child? Are you so desperate for fulfillment in your life that you have to buy things so people will like you?

I went into the bakers last week and the girl behind the counter greeted me "Good morning, sir. My name is Carol. Can I help you today?"
My response? "I sincerely hope so otherwise there's absolutely no point in you being behind the counter, Carol."

What's with all this Americanised, unnecessary chatty bollocks? I'd have been quite happy with the following:

                "Wadja want?"
                "Bread"
                "'ere."
                "Ta!"

Even the best have off days

Also, you will find that the prices atr the top shops are already discounted quite a bit so I'd be happy with anything they offered me

Profit margins at shops are unbelievably low (unless said shop is also a distributer aswell ). When you look at a product you look for the cheapest, which is no doubt already below RRP, meaning their margin is already down. As has been said, anything you can get i's better than nothing It also (rightly or wrongly) depends on who you get at the end of the phone. I've personally spoken to all of the "major" retailers at one time or another, and lets just say that one of them left a lot to be desired and left me feeling like I had disturbed their day rather than a customer about to spend some cash, and it was one of the co-owners I spoke to!

Perhaps it's a sign to try one of the smaller more "personal" retailers

But that's the whole trouble.. The current concept of being sweet to the 'mark' doesn't mean a darned thing. It certainly doesn't mean they'll honour anything they say after you have parted with your hard-earned. The better way is through word of mouth recommendation that those sweet words will be translated into genuine action when necessary.

Yeah, it's getting that way. Old man syndrome. But I had a customer ring me up yesterday only because she was worried her current vet was lying to her about pet's chances whereas she'd heard that I can be abrasive on a bad day but sure as heck she'll get the bald truth. Take your pick.

i look at it if they cannot be bothered with me when i am about to hand over a wad of cash then surely they wont even want to speak to me if i have a problem and wont be giving them my hard earned money
