how the hell does a heli fly inverted?

just been watching the odd video flying there helis upside down etc and wondered what makes this possible, im assuming some how the pitch of the blades is reversed or something?? not that im gonna go try or anything just curious lol

You need equal travel +/- pitch. we use idle up to give us a constant headspeed (normal a v curve or straight line throttle curve) which let's us use the negative side of the pitch range with power, this let's the heli move upside down without falling out of the sky.

I'm wondering how you set your 450 & 500 heads up if you dont have a grasp on negative collective?

Have you ever noticed that your tail blades turn the airframe left and right?

sorry im only a noob, perhaps i didnt explain what i meant properly, i understand what negative & positive pitch is, but when the heli is filpped upside down y dosnt it just plough straight in the ground, what makes the downward wash now go the other way?

The negative collective pitch

As in Steve's picture, the pic on the left is the collective pitch which gives the heli lift, when you flip inverted the blade looks like the second picture so you are effectively providing lift but upside down

I just flick the anti-gravity switch the other way round on my Tx...

You could just turn your Tx upside down maybe, then down will be up and up will be down. Sorted.

Helis in Australia are always flying upside down.
