    It should be mandatory.
Excuses like knocking switches, feeling restricted etc don't wash. You can adjust straps for length (or buy one you can adjust) you can take off or unclip the tx when it might be in the way and you can learn not to be a clumsy beggar.
Wat you can't do without a neckstrap is stop your tx falling to the ground when you slip your grip or a dog etc startles you!

Safety point. When starting an IC heli take the tx off the strap and tuck the strap down your front out of the way...tangling it into a hot start isn't good :-(

      I use one of these.
No Neck Transmitter Strap - HeliFreak
Avoids Tx swinging about when I bend over my model and takes the weight off my neck.
I have some spine trouble so the neck relief is particularly welcome.

How about an excuse like knocking the throttle as you lean over, take your hands off and letting it dangle, knocking the throttle as you try to clip it in- I've seen it all- You say yourself about tucking it the strap in and this is yet another potential risk, though a person deserves a Darwin award if you do the heli equivalent of leaning over a car radiator fan wearing a tie!! :P

I agree throttle hold will prevent this, but how many people do you see using throttle hold on IC helis before the flight- I think there is a far more clear and present risk of inadvertant throttle inputs with a neck strap than without personally. How many times has anyone on here actually dropped their Tx while in flight?

It's about putting the various risks in order of probability that it will happen and being scared by a dog is low down the list as is dropping the Tx- if you drop it with a strap, it angles up and is likely to full throttle it for you.

It's all personal preference but should certainly not be mandatory.

              No, not everybody does.

              But I do.

I also use my own neck-strap on the privileged occasions when I fly someone else's model - keeps their transmitter in a comfortable position for me.

Got to the stage I can't fly without one. Feels more secure.

Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !

You don't lean over and let it dangle..you take the blessed thing off for stuff like that...heck it even has a clip to make it easy.
And yes I have seen folk fumble a tx in flight - very scary

I've found myself walking around the house with it still on. I do need to get a balancer to stop the tx tilting back towards me.
