  • Futaba Gy401 compared to other gyros

I've seen some very high price tags on the GY401, are they any good ?

How do they compare to Spartan, Align etc Gyros.

Not worth the money compared to the Quark or GP750, but are better than the GP780.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I'd rather use a GA401 or an Assan, yeah useless but at least they admit it. Why anyone would still even consider a 401 when you can get the GT9 for £40 from Phoenixtech I don't know

401 is a good gyro for most of us who fly, it is only when you get to proper 3D and fast backwards that they start to show their shortcomings.
New they are too expensive now, but secondhand bargains are out there

            Exactly.

Why buy a second rate gyro when you can purchase a second hand CSM720 for similar money.

I have a GY401 on my kasama and it performs exactly as i want it to with no affect by vibes like all these fancy new gyros suffer with, its only mouted with velcro with one velcro strap holding it in place.

Wow mounting a gyro with velcro you'd have thought it would be shaking its tits off like that!

The GY401 is fine for basic flight but believe me when you progress to advanced 3D you will know what we are talking about.

i think the 401 was a very good and easy gyro to set up but now they are starting to show there age,i think it would have to be the spartan for me

But if your running windows 7 forget it.

IMO a 401 is way overpriced now & there's plenty of other far superior gyro's for the same money or less. The 401 though is one of the easiest to set up for a novice & you can forget about setting it up in rate mode to as it doesn't need it unless you intend on flying in that mode. Yea you can do 3D with a 401 but the tail in piro moves is a tad whippy & it 'may' blow out in full on tail slides. There really isn't much point in buying a 401 these days when better is avaliable

I tried a 401 on a 500 once and it never worked properly. Stuck the gp750 back on and it was a lot better. That being said I've seen a 401 on a 600esp that held rock solid while being put through it's paces.

Isnt there a bit in the manuel that says you may have problem with them on a 60 sized machine, seem to remember reading it, and getting rid of mine and getting something a little more up to date, I paid £130 quid for the one I had, today may as well buy a BX and use that as a gyro........................
