Anything more than the 32 Bit home Basic OS will start to weigh down on the Acer One, performance wise, mate and what's worse is the fact that these effects will be evident quite visibly on netbooks, as they are not intended (in their basic configuration) for utilising such 'performance oriented tasks/applications.

Don't worry, your pretty good to go.

Grab a USB live version of ubuntu, run it on the netbook and use it's partition tools to make a partition to store xp on, from another networked computer share it's DVD drive and copy the contents of a winxp cd over the network to the new partition, then you can do fresh reInstalls from that small partition.

                knock knock...

                  Just make a bootable USB?

Im running XP on a Asus 4G that was meant to run Xandros Linux, if it runs XP, Windows 7 will be fine imo.

Stick with Xp (Get SimpleXP) on your netbook. W7 is a no-no on an Atom processor. It'll run like a nun.
