  • HELP windows 7 install.

Hi all you computer buffs out there,

Today i installed windows 7 ultimate on one of my laptops successfully.

Then tried to do the mini laptop. And it failed i did however i chose the 64 version and on the other 86.

It went half way through the setup and then said it could not be successful and it loads up give me 3 options on startup.

    1.earlier version of windows
    2.windows 7
    3.windows setup rollback

I have tried all 3 options and it gives me a command prompt saying:

    x : (forward slash)$WINDOWS.(squiggle)BT(forward slash)Windows(forward slash)system32>

As you can tell im having problems with the keyboard layout on this machine too...the symbols are all over the place..heehhe

    Any help would be appreciated.

How have you formatted your flash drive to make it bootable?

      I normally use USBMultiboot.

Are you upgrading or doing a fresh install ? I'm guessing the drive is formatted correctly or the setup would not start in the 1st place. Suggest you format the hdd fully then do a clean install

Format the flash drive and re copy the files. Then start again if you can get back into windows. The problem is you can't do a fresh install if you start the setup from windows this has to be done when booting from the cd.

Your putting win7 on a netbook? It will be slow as hell.

                  knock knock...

netbooks and some older laptops that had xp installed will only run windows 7 home basic, 7 ultimate is only good for newer laptops or desktops

start from scratch, make the flash drive bootable then copy an image of the windows disc to the flash drive

instructions here (i used method 6 before) : Boot From A USB Flash/Pen/Key Drive

Hang on second.. a netbook should mean (I'm guessing) it is an Intel Atom processor (not necessarily though but most are...). I don't think the new atom processors support a 64 Bit OS, mate, to be honest. That is the reason it is not allowing you to proceed?

Oh and yeah as mentioned before, even if you get to install it (which I doubt), you should consider NOT doing so because the whole point of a net book (Atom Processor) is to conserve the battery trickle rate and by doing so (installing a 64 Bit OS) - it is NOT going to be battery-friendly. Then comes the point of if the nb will be able to handle the load on its CPU and memory... Just check it again, mate.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
