if i had a new engine that made a screeching noise it would be sent back as no engine should make that noise simple as that

I think you are looking for a problem that just isn't there. Put a video up so we can see/hear it.

As for os bearings, replace them with stainless versions from simply bearings. They last a year or more with no special end of day procedure.

There's certainly something there....I will admit though that I'm a bit paranoid as having had a spectacular bearing fail which resulted in the loss of an engine (even if Ripmax did replace it) to have to go through that palaver all over again.

It could be just another bearing on the heli that I've not found yet on its way out...or...it could be that the engine bearings are failing and I'm being a numpty and not reconising symptoms what might be obvious to others on the ground and am only aware when I start to fly thing thing that something is going wrong.

Bearing can still go in a gallon.. but you can tell if it is by the distinctive sound.. like a ball bearing in a tin can kinda rattle.. if in doubt.. change it!.. its only £1.25 as I previously posted

Adding another suggestion.. if its not the engine.. check your locking collar on the main shaft.. I had tightened mine down on the bearing to hard on the 500 and it had an annoying screeching sound, and just like you.. was replacing every possible bearing to sort it..

..good point ..also seen them put on upside down so the collar is carving a hole in the bearing block

Matthew, there could be a problem without hearing it I can't tell but the symptoms you describe I've seen many times before.

Take it for another flight and either increase or decrease the head speed, does the noise go away or stay the same/change pitch?

There is a narrow range where the natural harmonic of the heli creates what I would call a high pitch hum.

Need a video to know for sure.

You may have something there...on the bearing side of the coller there's a ridge (compared it to a new one and the base is smooth), so maybe its worn and this is the point is rubbing. No sign of any damage to the bearing though, but then the collar is made of a very soft alloy.

Couldn't really say about head speed, only that the noise was prevelant at the point the model was hovering.

Think there's two other maybes....the torque tube bearings and the collar rubbing (see other post).

I'll look at those first then see if I can sort out a video. It could also be I have an issue with the engine bearings and a strange tortured-bearing sound, but they're not actually related....

Just to wrap this up...It was the main bearing on the engine after all.

Hadn't realised how noisy the engine had got, or rather how quiet it now is as I think it was pretty noisy when I got it.

Thanks for your help and suggestions, folks
