  • How do I teach myself 3D flying?

    Hi Folks

Well, I've been playing around in Phoenix for several months now and I've gotten proficient to the point that I'm starting to look for more. I can hover right-side up just fine and my fixed-wing days have helped me get as good as I'm going to get with FFF. Knowing my weakness, I know that if I don't look for a challange now, I'm going to get bored. As I don't get the opportunity to fly real-world frequently enough, its important that I keep going on the Sim or my real-world skills will quickly be lost.

So I'm looking at getting into some entry-level 3D flying. I barely know the name of most of the manouvers, but I just cannot figure out some of the stick controls to get it done. For example, I can do banked turns, but a tail-down pie-dish simply escapes me.

I've downloaded some of the movies and looked at the virtual transmitter but, frankly, I'm battling to understand the what-when-and-why element.

Can someone recommend a means, perhaps an online resource, that will help me get into 3D flying? In terms of what I can do, in my opinion: my tumbles are pretty good, my rolls are fine, stall-turns are just peachy and any combination of the above.

    Thanks
    Andrew

I would say get flying inverted first. Start off by nose in inverted. At the same time try tick tocking.

With 3D stuff you need to just work out in your head what control inputs you need to do. Ades demos in Phoenix are pretty useful.

Make sure the TX sticks are displayed so you can see his inputs

Same as Philimon here. Though only had the sim a week or so. Can fly around no problem, but any 3D sort of stuff makes my brain hurt. Though obviously all 3D moves can be acheived immediately with a 5min round trying to get those damn balloons in Phopenix :-)

just work in the basics first. make sure you can hover in all orientations both inverted and normal way up. then practice flipping between inverted and normal, but keep changing how you get in to it and out of it, otherwise you may find that you get stuck only wanting to flip in one particular way and orientation. Im getting there, but it takes a lot of time, and a lot of patience. ive looked and looked, but as yet have not found a quick n easy method

Get Alan Szabos Ultimate Heli 3D DVD - shows manoeuvres and sticks at the same time.

                    Cheers.
