  • OS55 or TT53 Redline

Hi all, I am thinking of buying the TT X50, however not sure what engine to go with, I have always used OS but there are some some good deals about which include the TT 53 Redline, now I have used TT engines before and must admit the experience has not been good.
There are some mixed reviews about the Redline engine so just looking for some feed back before taking the plunge.
So any of you guys using the OS 55 or TT 53 Redline, what do you think ??

They are both harder to tune than the OS50, but for me, I'd go with the OS55 over the TT53, of which I have had 'previous' with!!

      Os 55 ,.............. Nuf said !!!!! ;-)

Oh if you want mad power use a TT highflow muffler.

I use an MP5 nice quiet power.

Also used the OS power pipe Noisey (ish) and peaky .

I have both, the R53 is okay but its weakness in my opinion is its consistency, you tune it to perfection, 5 minutes later its a bag of spanners. The OS55 is far more consistent, but then its a fair bit more expensive

I have to say that although on paper the performance is the same, the 55 certainly feels more powerful.

The high flow pipe is a monster, if a bit noisy

I have used two 53 engines and both have run very well, now have new homes and never needed anything replacing apart from one piston ring which was my own fault, 55 seems to be the choice apart from the fact they 55 eats bearings.

love it.. bags of power.. easy to tune.. runs consistantly.. but as Mikes mentioned.. it eats bearings (particularly if you use SKF ones!) use the Rc bearing cheapo's and not only do they last longer, you can get 8 sets for the price of one SKF and these are consumables.. so i'm not bothered

I have a fair bit of experience with the 53 going for the OS Hyper carb mod and to be honest, power wise when the 53 is on song there isn't much between them. The 55 with the Thunder Tiger HighFlow pipe is awesome and reasonably quiet, but best of all the power is available all the way from the bottom to the top where the 53 is a bit peaky. I reckon I could easily add another couple of degrees of pitch but to be honest I'm finding that the thing is lively enough with 12.

The 53 carb is either good or bad, in that you get a good one or a bad one. If it's a bad one get rid of it, if it's a good one you won't need to touch it.

I am using the O.S. 55 Hyper on my Trex 600 and use the O.S. Power pipe with 20% Coolpower . It goes without saying " Use the best you can afford " I have put about 6 gallons through and still on original bearings going through very " sporty " flying . I am currently building the TT X50 also , so will fit an O.S. 55 in and will use the O.S. Pipe .......... Sound advice if you want a long life outfit . PM me if you want any help ........................

I would echo previous if its your first nitro the o.s50 is great and is really easy to tune. I had 53 with os carb on was good but again as mentioned a pain to get right, the 55 is very powerfull but does take some knowledge to get them right. Buy the best you can afford.

I have the powerboost pipe on my 55 at the moment and it seems o.k to me. will try other pipes in the new year. I want to try the tt now rachel has mentioned it.

Ian go with the high flow pipe, you'll be impressed. Optifuel use exactly this setup for testing and reckon it's the best pairing by far.

You can't get hold of ys50 anymore unfortunatly I wanted one instead of 55.

Ys56 if money no object but pipe choice is very important so im told.

cheers wavey will try that asap.
