I can't comment on the veracity of the source information, but if you want to go down that route I'd have gone with the Flasher as Phoenixtech post on here regularly, support the forums and do 100% stand behind their product when (if) there are issues.

Hard to beat that level of support even if you buy something that isn't a clone.

I have had Issues with my 500 tail! stuck Align blade holders on there and now fine. although needs plenty of thredlock! replaced headblock bearings with esp ones and gen tail holders and thats the only upgrade I have done.

WOW.....i am amazed this thread is so loving and nice.....lol.

Right on a serious note, though i don't hold the same views as some, each to there own feelings on the subject, the idea of a secondhand trex 500 is a good idea, the only prob is you loose the build it yourself element, also the likely hood is some of the screws will of rounded off when you come to fix it, doesn't matter how carefull it has been built.
Obviously the Trex 500 is ideal, and i love aligns, simple, proven, though not expensive when you concider other stuff, still is a big outlay, and i guess you cannot strech to that?
So if that is beyond your budget, i would look at phoenixtech 500, reason being you have the back-up from Andy in the UK.
I actually used the speed controller and motor in my trex 500 when mine died and had loads of power and was 100% reliable.
As for say a HK500 from hobbyking, though very cheep i would be more expecting alot lower quality item due to amterials will be of less quality.

If you must go for a clone, then go for the Phoenixtech one. Andy will support you and the quality is known.

I've owned both the real deal and 3 different types of 500 clones,,, still fly the hk500 with plastic head and tail and after a year in a Heliartist Airwolf, nothing has fallen off and apart from the usual checks still flys great,,,

Really does depend on what YOU want,, if all you plan is just sport flying, then either are fine- once you start to push them or hanker after 3d stuff then forget it,, they are cheap for a reason !!!- you'd also be wasting money on so called "upgrades"- the metal head and tail unit really is rubbish(still got on the workbench gathering dust), ..

Bottom line is if you can afford it, get the genuine article or a s/hand one..

Ok no fights please, my flasher 500 has been very good for me and never let me down, ok I m not a 3d king so I fly just sport at the moment.

Only replaced the tail as it got damaged in a crash for an align one, apart from that it's stock.

While we are on the subject of clones has anyone got a dodgy copy of Windows 7..

Wouldnt mind a dodgy copy of a Phoenix sim & dongle too if anyone has one.
