How did you get into heli's?

Walked through the hangar at work 2 1/2 years ago and saw 2 of my chaps flying contras: a Blade CX2 and a Century Spirit. I liked the Century because of the bling and was amazed at how cheap these things were. Bitten from that point. The Century went back to the shop (it was rubbish) and I got a MiniPred instead. Smashed that a few times. On reflection it was rubbish but I learned a lot. Then on to a s/h Raptor 50V2, Phoenix and a TREX 700.

I had model boats, then raced touring cars, my dad then got me a medivac contra rotating heli and aero fly. And had that for years then 2 years ago Mark578821 bought a Blade 400 bought it into work and he's the blame for my now on going heli addiction Git!!

About 3 years ago, a mate got a fp heli of some kind at a carboot sale and brought it into work to fiddle with. it never worked, but that night i looked on the net at the helis that were around and was stunned at the prices, never thought to look! So a Honeybee Cp2 found its way to me... and I was hooked!
The vid Paulo uk posted is also the first vid i saw...
had a few hobbies over the years, But I know that guitars and helis are the only ones that will follow me into retirement and beyond

I liked helicopters so I bought a small toy like type from maplin to fly in my house ,then I wandered wouldn't it be great to fly it in the park. So I took it to the park and flew it but the wind kept pulling it away from me and I had no control of it so me and my brother thought what can be done about this. Then I thought it said indoor helicopter, on the box maybe there might be outdoor helis on the web somewhere. And when I searched the web I found buzzflyer selling 450helis which I thought was the biggest helicopter there is so got a esky beltcp2 and crashed that about 30 times before buying a sim .made a big mistake not buying a sim before as I spent about 1000 on repairs on this helicopter ,sometimes I ask myself why am I putting up for this,I don't know I just love helicopters since then I'm hooked on to helicopters its been since start of February I'm into this hobby and now I can do inverted flying no problem.one thing ,I always believed id come home without a broken helicopter and now I hardly crash.and I'm saving for a Srimok 90!whoohoo

It started for me in 2000.



Saw a tiny Helicopter at my local model shop. Went to a local indoor meet to see them fly and got talking to bloke called Arthur who encouraged me and I was hooked.

Bought a Piccolo from my local model shop. Learned to fly over a large double bed !!
Flew at our local indoor meetings (Swanley Kent) for a few years.

Then invested nearly a grand in a new Raptor 50V2 and starting equipment in 2005. First flights at the Eynsford club in the snow!!
After a couple of years I Got a second hand Synergy from one of the clubs best pilots and before I knew it there was two!!! Had to sell them as too expensive to repair.

I’ve made some great friends and had some great opportunities through Heli's over the years.

I love this hobby and am completely hooked. I’m getting on a bit (48) Mental age (12) and proud of it!!

My wife and friends bought me a little 2 channel plastic thing for my 40th in December last year. Little did they know of the monster it would unleash and where I would be now-

Century spirit led to an MSR then the Innovator, followed by the 500 then the 700- first CP heli was in February I think- it's so addictive and rewarding and it helps that I love the tinkering and crash repairs too

Starterd about 3 years ago when my work mate Jeff Smith (spiderspid) brought his Raptor 30 round to show me.

I was ok until he started it up and showed me it flying.

I had one just the same 2 days later.

Talk about getting bitten by the bug.

Got a sceadu 50 and got nitro in my blood Velocity was last year along with a Protos and now a 700le G next wk

Long story cut short

March/April 2005 going to work (nights) see teeny weeny plane flying around pumps at rownhams services. I want one. I buy cheap plane from Argos. It flys bad & crashes out of field in road. Plane gets squashed by cars. I buy another & it still wont fly & i crash. Cellotape wing on & take back get refund. I buy another plane at Rownhams services. Totally gutless motors wouldn't pull the skin off custard. Take back get refund. I have brain wave 'if i buy a heli i can learn to hover inches off the ground = no crash damage'. Walk into hobbystores july 2005 & walk out with RTF Sabre FP . Long hours & bad weather means not much flying at all. Feb 2007 i buy Trex 450S. Cant fly until DX7 arrives end of may. Begining of June have 1st flights of Trex 450 Here is that flight

This was my 1st ever flight instead of hovering & it was due to endless hours on FMS & i went straight into sim mode. A few days later i had a mechanical failure that cost me £120 & i then went to learning again from scratch as my confidence & wallet took a major beating.
