  • Competition Format ~ The Sets..?

    Guys,

Help me understand the format of the ‘Sets’ round in a competition such as last weekends Champs. I noticed that although each competitor needed to complete 4 set manoeuvres, they seemed to ‘pad it’ out a little with some flashy stuff to achieve a flight time of approximately 3mins.

Are you only judged on the set manoeuvres i.e. the bit between the ‘Start call’ and ‘End call’ or does the flashy bit in-between get taken in account either directly or by indirectly impressing the judges..?

If it’s only the set manoeuvres, could you go out fly them back to back and be done in a fraction of the time and not get penalised in the scoring (or risking your model in a flashy crash)?

    Thanks,

    Lee.

The 3D Format set manoeuvres round is flown within a freestyle flight (the idea being that it makes it more appealing for spectators to watch, and for pilots to fly).
The overall presentation of the flight (the padding you refer to) is judged and awarded a score, as well as each set manoeuvre individually.

        Thanks Rob!

Can I also assume the same is true for the Grass Roots sets round?

          Hi Lee,
No, the Grass Roots set manouevres round doesn't sit inside a freestyle flight to keep it easier on the pilots.

          So, set manouevres only...

          Cheers,
          Rob

            Judging format

This is the format that was used at the 3DS event in May this year to give you an idea of what the Grassroots will consist of. There is also a list of moves with their K factor for both the Grassroots, Intermediates & Experts classes

just to clarify-that is an old page and we did not use that judging format. we reverted to 3 full time judges. the rest was unchanged however.

              cheers
