  • The highs and lows of being a Helicopterist

    Ages ago I bought a Trex 250.
Luvverly little machine that I quickly realised was way beyond my tyro capabilities.
Many moons pass......MCX,mSR and SR120 all help to firstly fuel what has become an addiction and secondly help to move me along the path to being a competent pilot.
Anyway to cut a long story short after bashing Phoeinix I decided to try the 250.
Training balls on (in more ways than one) I attempted to become airborne.
Blow me down I managed a decent hover.
Had a couple of hardish landings but all AOK.
Two more batteries hovering my little heart out....deepjoy deepjoy.........then....on batt 4.....HORRORS......the rotor disk just seemed to collapse.
Killed throttle ASAP and went to inspect my poor little heli.
Suffice to say it will be visiting Eckman down at Hoverfly for Heli-Doctorial ministrations.
Gutted tho' I am by the failiure I felt great with the half decent hoverHappy skies to you all.....ChickenHawk out>>

Good news on getting the 250 airborne m8 Well done
But you say the rotor disk collapsed What exactly does that mean
      What bits got broken ?

Well there I was hovering my little heart out............all I can say is that it just appeared to do a massive wobble and headed earthward from a height of about 4ft.
I was videoing but it all happened just off camera...(I had zoomed in a bit to get better heli size and forgot to compensate my heli placement!!!!)

It didnt hit very hard at all.
When I picked her up the flybar was jammed over the blade and there was a massive ding in the boom which subsequently snapped when I tried to fix it.
One of the ball links on the swash was popped ...but that could have been done on landing....I do not really....know.

Got a right buzz from the hovering before the prang.
Love the noise the blades make Onward and upward

Ahh! Well, although its impossible to say after the fact, a popped link does seem to be a very likely candidate.

But as you say Onwards and upwards

PS. Must be time to think about a 450 eh!
