  • What Hobby were you in to before Helis

I tried killing my self for good 6 years by doing Streetluge then I thought I put couple of World Cup races on in Scotland.
Doing 70mph on this road in Scotland (police radar )was such a thrill on the streetluge ,buttboard and gravity bike.
Then the kids came along and I grew up Lol

Scuba diving for about 15 years, only tried to kill myself a couple of times, but I survived, as did all the buddies I dived with

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

I had a 200 gallon Coral Reef tank, but it was very expensive (yep more than helis) and I was forever worrying about them when I was away!

I used to breed red belly piranha (Serrasalmus nattereri) and same as you Paulo i used to worry about them no end when i was away.

I went away for 2 weeks and my sister did not keep to the strict feeding schedule i had them on, you can pretty much guess what happened when i got home, it was a massacre. What annoyed me the most was the breeding pair was dead.

I was pretty annoyed at my sister for a fair while.

Changed the tanks into community tank once i had re-homed the piranaha up until a friend gave me his Soft shell turtle which was about 15cm at the time. Kept him in my old 6ft tank and he reached a nice size of 34cm before i had to find him a new home. Kind of glad because he turned into a vicious ba***rd.

Sold all my gear and some of that money i used to buy my first heli

...depends how far an old f@rt goes back.. but Target Archery for some years , then PPL then playing the sax then woodcarving before the helis.
The archery took a back seat when i started my own business.. just no time for the hours of practice needed to stay near the top. The PPL died it's death when we remodelled the business and went over budget (by a lot) and my licence lapsed..somehow never bothered revalidating it .. but it was cheaper than flying rc!!.. which sorta overtook the carving projects.. I've still got a rocking unicorn, an 8-foot Seahorse and a nude in planning.. and always meant to make all the doors low relief carving scenes..

Been flying fixwing for around 35 years with some time out to race rc cars, then started flying helis last October and I'm loving every minuet of it.

Helis rock its a lot better flying helis than planks.

Were do i start, i never pick cheap hobbys

Mountain bikes - of which i still have 3. (not that expensive now as dont get a chance to ride as much as i did - 150 miles a week average)

Koi carp - i have 11 koi ranging from 3in to 32in, sterlet of 3.5ft (very costly, spending on average of £200 per month on food and electric)

Rc heli - not even going to work out how much its costing per month, but fair to say not far short of the koi costs at the moment due to crashing)

Oh, 1 wife (who doesnt work), 1 boy, 2 cars, 1 mortgage, etc etc etc.

                      Lee

PS - A very large credit card balance
Crashing is in my blood, were can I get a transfusion

You can never have to many batts

                        A brief summary for you.

Been Surfing since I was 9, arrived in the UK, the surfing died a sudden death. Started wakeboarding, put myself in A&E twice, perforated eardrums (smacking the water real hard, learning S-Bends).

Got myself an R6 did track days, sold R6 (before I killed myself), bought a 250SXF motorcross bike almost did kill myself (back to the A&E), sold motocross bike.

Started kitesurfing, almost killed myself (got dragged by a looping kite for what felt like a mile). Still kitesurfing cos its such an rush! (I am alot better now)!

Bought a super motard, binned it twice trying to ride it like an R6, now going to sell super motard to pay off credit card and subsidise new Logo 400.

Before I got into helis (and before the kids came along) I was into power kiting and buggying. Had around 6 kites a buggy and a mountainboard. My eldest (7) has started to enjoy flying kites so just about to buy a couple power kites (1 for him and 1 for me )

Before that I was into online gaming and pc modding, but that got way too expensive keeping up with technology all the time!

In my teens I did a fair bit of sailing in dinghy's with some national racing events then when I started work motorbikes swallowed up most of my disposable income, then I met the wife to be who wouldn't be seen dead (actually quite likely!) on the back of a bike so that was the end of that. After we got married I started flying planks for a few years, then heli's as well, although they'd hardly qualify as heli's these days.

Had health problems and an enforced break from flying, got better and felt the itch for a bike again, now 40 had been & gone . Found I could actually afford to insure big bikes and had a GSXR 750, Yam FZR1000EXUP and finally an Aprilia RSV and spent a few years following BSB around the UK plus British rounds of WSB & Moto GP.

Felt the urge to fly planks again, then heli's and wondered how we ever managed before modern electrics came along and spent a fortune on heli's, radio's, lipo's plus the odd plank. These days there aren't enough hours in the day to fit in anything else as I do a lot of voluntary work on top of regular duties.
