Horizontal Stabiliser removal?

Hey guys
So what difference does removing the horizontal stabiliser make to the heli? I have a Raptor50 and a T-rex 500 and was wondering whether it would be beneficial for 3D to change the tail clamp to one without a stabiliser mount...
Any comments on good 6s 500 lipos for 3D wouldn't go a miss either

The stabilizer doesnt make much difference in flight if you remove it.. its mainly just somthing to help stop the blades chopping the tail off in a crash. I personally like the look of both fins removed, but i wouldnt want my tail blades touching the floor.

These batteries look ok, and at £41.99 i'd at least try them

use the clamp of the 50 titan se ross!i prefer the look of them without the stabilizer!

just changed one on my 500 doing away with the horizontal fin, no difference that I could spot.

also flown a mates 600 with it removed and mine with it still on again ive be very hard pressed to tell if it were on or not. Although I have noticed the F3C boys have huge great fins on theirs, which I assume does help the flight characteristics but the little edged things we have on them you wont miss at all, infact its one thing less to replace when it hits the deck

Dark therapy, Funnily enough I have two of those Lipos already but wanted to find something lighter like the 2600mah packs but thanks for the recommendation. They're indeed a good pack but I've heard there are better for 3D.

one less thing to break... I like the look of the boom without the horizontal stab. Might have to order one up from QUK next time I need some bits...

The horiz stab doesn't make a lot of difference at low airspeed, ie hovering or 3D, but can make a big difference at high speed - like in F3C.

It can help a lot in rolls when you are trying to stretch them from horizon to horizon...!!!

Like Pete says - with a big horizontal fin, the downwash from the blades will push down on it and make the heli drift backwards in the hover. So, you add a bit of forwards trim to counteract this. Once this trim is added, the disc will be tilting slightly forwards when the heli is stationary - this effect is amplified in fast forwards flight, so when the heli is gunning along quickly, the fuselage appears dead level while the disc is tilted forwards - F3C is all about presentation, and a flat straight approach will score better than a heli which is approaching the manoeuvre with its tail high in the air.

Even the F3C boys like 3D style vertical fins though because they have plenty of holes in them to let the air through. A solid fin just reduces the efficiency and effectiveness of the tail rotor.
