I'm not taking sides, but -

    http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/known-scammers/

If you have PROOF that someone is scamming, this is the place to post. Please note, ALL posts are checked by the mods before they go up.

Sadly, I had to go down this route once.

So, if you have proof, there you go. If not.....

I think this forum actually does quite a lot to prevent it's members being scammed, it has the 30 day/50 post rule before access to the for sale forum, and it has a scammers sub forum. In addition, considering the amount of sales that occur the vast majority seem to go smooth with no hassles.

I have been a mod on another forum where more sales took place, and again, in the very few cases where one party was not happy people started screaming at the forum Admin and Mods to do something. This is simply not going to happen on a formulated, regular basis. I am sure most Mods don't mind doing a bit of mediation but if it becomes formalised, the forum is accepting liability, this is just not reasonable. The forum makes no money off the for sale threads, it just allows two private individuals a means of communicating.

Most disputes are simple miscommunication or misunderstanding, with 2 different people having 2 different opinions of 'good condition', people selling items they are unaware are carrying a fault or the post office delaying, damaging or losing goods. Very few people deliberately set out to rip off other forum members and then stick around.

There are only two ways forums can deal with threads like these if they become the norm. They either formally wash their hands of all sale threads, or they close the for sale sub forum entirely. I would be sad to see this forum have to go down that route.

I personally have had good experiences buying and selling here, but for those that are worried, you need to remember that not everybody knows everybody, and not everybody is as trustworthy as you would like, as well as you need to allow room for misunderstanding. Treat deals on here as you would if you were offered the same deal in the small ads or in the pub and you won't be disappointed.

I for one would not like to see for sale adds gone as I love buying and selling and although I may buy alot on impulse I still enjoy it.

I would rather continue buying on here than the BMFA etc for pure convineance more than anything and if a deal were to go sour I certainley would not go crying to Mods as what can they do, tell someone they are being very naughty and ban them for 30 days or whatever, they are not going to care as the scammers will just move on to the next one.

I've always been lucky buying / selling on here I guess but I also accept that buying something secondhand carries certain risks. You need to be prepared to face those risks when you choose to buy something. If you're of the ilk that everything must be absolutely perfect then go and buy new and in the UK where you have legislation to protect you. I've seen some frankly ridiculous claims of dissatisfaction on here from dirty tail blades and nicked insulation on wires leading to threats of court action to this 5 month gap. If you were to buy a secondhand car and take it back after 5 months you'd likely be laughed off the forecourt. Even statutory consumer legislation details reasonable time periods for inspection of goods. In most cases it's days...

The inherent difficulty with Internet based trading, and I've lost count of how many times I've said this, is that it's all too easy to introduce misunderstandings and heavily weighted stories that favour the OP.

Should people be named and shamed?

Only with good reason and proof that actual wrongdoing has taken place. Otherwise we could end up in a litigation nightmare of defamation cases springing up here, there and everywhere.

The worrying conclusion of that could be the implication of the site and it's owners, resulting in the loss of the site. Equally, to use the "he's a newbie..." argument further devalues the complaint. I've never seen anyone specify to whom they're willing to sell on the basis of experience. Imagine, "For Sale - Buyer must hold a b-cert"...

i agree with Andy here , i haven't sold much here , but i am sure the guys who got the goods i sold were happy , but as with any thing i have for sale ,its simple i describe to the best of my knowledge what condition its in ,now not every thing can be 100% , so i wood say to the buyer if your not 100% happy then just return them as u received them vie recorded delivery & ill refund the buyer , or if its just something not expensive ill paypall the cash difference to cover it if both agree .this can all be done vie pm or phone
i remember when i joined this forum the was lots of stuff going for sale & i don't remember much nasty posted threads around on here then as i see in the last 12 months .
this only does damage to us all here & from my point of view to the likes of me who has been here a while , who does not put goods for sale often.& we can be panted with the same brush, its like if u get something from a shop if they sort it you will go back if thay don't well you don't,

            just my opinion

I would just like to add, I have bought from Dan before and he has also given me free stuff. I have met him in person and he is a genuine top bloke and I wouldn't hesitate buying from him again. There is always risk go buying second hand and especially a heli where it should be checked out first by an experienced pilot prior to flying, therefore I don't see Dan as being liable.

Personally think that Dan has perfectly explained himself here..

5 months later and only getting back.. well I think that anyone else on here who has sold stuff would not want to know??

Think Dan has gone well over the call of duty to pay for the repairs after 5 months!

...call me an @r5e... but I don't think I would have done it

Thanks - thats all anyone can ask, IMHO you'd be better to pay the horizon repair bill plus postage which is only £31 vs the £60- plus postage for a full refund - but this is completely your choice.

I am guessing you may not be lucky to resell it again without it being repaired anyway now you've identified yourself !!

I didn't name you deliberately, so to be honest, you could have resolved this privately by PM, which might have been more sensible, but thats your choice.

This was also a general post about bad sellers, so hopefully this will show the support for good selling on here, and put people off being economical with the truth when selling items - especially to people new to the hobby.

jamesb72, I think you are bang out of order. How can you expect a refund after 5 months?? - If ever your interested in anything I'm selling don't bother contacting me because I would NEVER sell anything to you

I think DAN was very sensible to post here, as it tells his side of the story and proves what a to**er you are

It was not even Jamesb that brought the items it was someone he met on here that did from what I can gather

I have commented on this before, but I will say it again, when we buy from the forum, we are buying SECONDHAND GOODS, we are also paying secondhand prices. If you want unused, imaculate goods go buy new. I have recently purchased a couple of items from forum members, I paid a fair price and I got a bargain, (thanks tonystevens & bladestriker), but they where not NEW.
If I pay £400 for a heli from a forum member, and the exact setup from Fastlad would cost me £1400, what should I expect?

IMHO you can take as many photographs as you want, describe any defects in minute detail, some people will still complain. Human nature!
One man's good condition, is another man's shabby

A couple things that I have learnt from my short time on this forum, I wont sell here anymore, I think expections are to high. Personally a cosmectic blemish is not important to me, to other people I can see they matter.

Lynx.1677, after 5 months, I would have told the buyer to f**k off. Your offer of a refund is far more than would have done. I respect you
