  • Gutted, Rappy went in :(

Well it had to happen sooner or later!!!

Mechanical failure of the pitch servo horn 20ft up, resulted in full negative pitch into terra firma.

Totally gutted as i wasnt even doing anything....just a hover.

Landed on its skids, which survived, but the head basically exploded.

    Main blades survived though..

    Parts list is ......

    1 x (PV0005) Flybar contol loops £3.29
    1 x (PV0354) Main rotor hub £7.20
    1 x PV0239 Body Clip Set 30/90 £3.91
    1 x (PV0044) Linkage rod £4.40
    1 x (PV0355) Spindle V2 £5.38
    1 x (PV0011) Wash out set £8.50
    1 x (PV0008) Flybar rods - 2 pcs - OEM £6.79
    1 x (PV0041) Ball links £4.96
    1 x PV0004 Mixing lever £6.93
    1 x PV0040OEM Double Ball Links HTPV0040 £1.32

Could have been worse, but pi**ed off that it wasnt even my fault

Trip to fastlads tomorrow, got the order in already.

I know how you feel, last Monday I had a wire come off my regulator and in the heli went.

          £100 damage.

I've since re-soldered the offending lead and applied liberal amounts of hot glue.

Wow, that's what I call a cheap crash. I've just spent that on a curry & bottle of wine....

My thoughts exactly. Without damaged blades that's a very cheap crash.

                        Oh, I've snapped a few. Usually they don't survive a 30ft impact

But fom what i can tell this was the cause of the crash.

                          It just lost all pitch!!!

From the relatively few crashes I've had, what seems to happen in a crash is that the arm stays intact and the servo gears strip instead (unless possibly it's metal gears).

One thing that happened a servo on a heli I haven't flown yet, is that the servo arm started to slip on the servo shaft. I thought the servo was faulty but soon realised the servo was working correctly but the arm wasn't moving and I replaced the servo arm. (But if this had happened then I'd think the crash would not break the arm if it was already able to slip so easily).

The only thing I'm thinking about the heli losing pitch is that I would think the blades would have a tendency to go to zero pitch rather than into negative, so it would seem if the collective arm let go you'd get a descent but not a slamming into the ground.
