I am addicted to helis and this site but after a number of years I feel I am now going backwards and feel i should give up I thought by now I could a least do circuts by now.
I was all set for today kids and wife are away got up early looked out the window bl##dy snowing I am going to the field away what ever.
I was even pants hovering the Raptor had a break to get my head togther thought I give the copter x a go was doing ok with untill I stuffed it into the snow after 3mins o well thats what i got it for I have spares so no big deal.

Tried the rappy again almost stuffed that well hacked of came home to fix the 450 maybe I will stuff that this afternoon.

One of the lads at the club is going to buddy up at some point but i just feel I should be alot better by now.

I am hacked off I just needed to get it of my chest.

Sad to hear, the worst thing to do is give up, never do that.
Have a week off from flying, concentrate on other things and get your head on the straight and narrow buddy, youll be ok .

        Oh m8 Dont give up
Its not you, Its probably just a lack of stick time what with all this "Oribble" weather and what have you.
I went out flying for the first time in weeks the other day and although I felt confident I was still shaking like a leaf whilst flying Just through the lack of stick time.
The buddy box thing sounds like a good move and perhaps spend a goodly amount of time on Phoenix. You will get there. And remember it aint a race so do it at your own pace

Visibility on a bright summer day is MUCH better than in mid-winter. Naturally, flying gets much more difficult when you can't see the rotor disk as clearly as you're used to.

You could go back to square one, start again with the simulator. Tail-in hovering, side-in, nose-in and the intermediate angles (8 positions in total, better 12). Observe your own flying with a critical eye - if the hovering is difficult, I find the idea of flying circles scary.

I dont get to fly enough but spend loads of time on the sim I even take it to work because I end up siting off in the truck.
I just carn't seem to get it togther and every time I go flying i just come back think it was a waste of time and feel crap.

dont despair chris, it happens to us all. If your flying with club mates there is nothing better. as adrian says just get in the right frame of mind!
(dont push yourself,or believe this "if your not crashing b*ll*x") just fly within your limits and get a friend or club member (experienced) to stand with you and give you advice/encouragement as you fly.
last week rich (three6ty) went from lazy 8's to full 8's and circuits in one battery(trex 450) just by having Mark Lane stood behind him saying things like "more right rudder". "level up now" etc. and this week he's determined to do the same on his 600le
im sure if the weather has held he wil update this thread!!

Mark is very tall, but quietly spoken so i guess he will have to shout

but seriously an experienced guy stood by you is the best way to progress if you cant get on a buddy lead.

dont give up m8e .....you will only regret it later on .. I thought about giving up a few times as I dont get to fly as much as I like and also the fact year before last all I could do was bloody hover due to something medical .. Now down to Tim and a few others I have stuck with it and even though I still dont get the time to fly as much as others , when I do fly I enjoy it more ... plus I spend more time fooling around and yapping than flying but hey ho .. it aint a race .. its about enjoyment ...

I have been there, got the t-shirt, poster, high deff dvd.
I honestley think the best thing is DONT watch the you tube video's of the flyers that get posted on here. I watch them and see comments like "after 3 months I have just done a tripple backward piro flip blindfolded with one arm tied behind my back and young romainian nymph ticking my sack". OK that maybe an exageration, but after 18 months, Im a learner, but I still enjoy the hobby, learn at your own speed. There is no " after X months I can do this". If it takes me 20 years to fly a perfect circuit, thats how long it will take. JUST ENJOY THE HOBBY WITH NO TIME LIMITS

                        Keep going

Everyone is right in saying that 'its not a race'...it isnt m8. Im into my 4th year flying rc helicopters and im just getting into lazy 8's. Note i said 'flying' and by that i mean as long as my heli is off the deck its flying . It isnt about wether you should be flying loops or rolls or full on 3D. I still get a buzz from my first hover. just enjoy what you do, take it at your own pace

Sorry to hear about your mishaps.

I am pretty much entirely self-taught, and have crashed an awful lot! One thing I try to take from each crash is /why/ I crashed. Did I forget which way to push the stick? Did I misread the orientation? Am I just not good enough to do that yet? And then I try to find some way to fix that problem; perhaps more sim time, perhaps some exercises, perhaps a different way of approaching the maneuver, whatever.

It seems to me flying is a strange discipline: we're working almost 100% on reflexes and intuitive responses; if you have to think about it, you've probably crashed. Every time I go out it's almost a surprise to me when I turn the heli around and find "yes, I can still nose-in hover!" Some days your brain just isn't up to it, especially if you've not been flying regularly.
