I simply list the helis in my fleet, i used to have all the specs too but agree that this is OTT.
I'm interested in what people are flying and would not bother digging around in user cp's to find out.
I think if your a sponsored pilot or affiliated with a certain brand or organisation theres no harm in a small logo to illistrate this however i see no need for massive banners or pictures clogging up page space.
Personally i dont like the massive sigs, especially when browsing on the iPhone. Some peopls sigs are just too big when they add everything one on top of the other instead of side by side. The one with the animated gif of his heli crashing springs to mind. (not attacking you whoever you are just the first one that came to mind)

That would be me
I have this website zoomed out a bit, so i forget how big my sig can get
"Anger and Frustration bring the best out of my flying ability.. because generally I don't give a shit either if the machine hit's the deck or stay's in the air - both will accomplish satisfaction, but most of all it exerts the feeling of flying conservatively. - Callum" www.callumheli.co.uk
haha yeah that sig was funny but agree the size can be annoying on any large sig.
I'd say a decent size would be something about the size of the "quick reply" (600x100px) text box, then you can enter alot of info horizontally if you want and it would still fit the odd pic/gif easily without taking up alot of room..

There is an App called Kaytri which is a forum browsing App. You put in the basic info such as URL and username/password etc and it allows you to browse the forum with everything stripped out, avatars, sigs, the lot, all the posts are clear and visible with no pinching to zoom and scrolling about.
I know it works with this site because I have it as my one bookmark and it browses fine.
It comes free but only allows you one site saved or it wants you to pay.
