I didn't really enjoy my flight - was too busy fighting the gusts which I guess were up to 18+mph. Spent most of the 3/4 tank trying to maintain a good F3C style hover at 6 ft. Only half a dozen or so 8's then back to hovering and cold fingers.

Yeah, Mart whats going on with my main tank? It was defo 1/2 full at this sort of time... by the way can you mail me a larger version of the last image even better if you can re-fill my main tank 
The next time you see it the legs will be on the other way around too
makes mental note to spend some time in the workshop tomorrow...

Which Focus Mode (AF-S/AF-C/AF-M)?
Which AF area mode were you using?
And were you using 7-sensor (wide) or 11-sensor?
I assume the D300 allows you to change between 11-sensor and 7-sensor wide like the D200.
Another thing I noticed looking at the metadata but wasn't sure if the info was right. You were shooting 1/250 and F/10? Try increasing shutter speed to about 1/500 and increasing the aperture (yes, I know I'll probably get comments about increasing but a lower F-stop is actually a larger aperture).
