I was waiting for the " taking the effort out of screwing " statement m8e lmao ... if i was building as much as you do Rob then I would be looking for the same as well ...
You have no idea how hard wording this threads posts has been
    ROFL

I was troubled slightly by a clicking sound in my forearm during a build session last week - I reckon I should do something about it, and not building heli's isn't an option

    Cheers,

Sorry Rob can't help with any suggestions but I certainly like the idea..

I paid a visit to B&Q this evening to see what they had, after some suggestions here

In the end I didn't make a purchase, but I almost bought the Bosch IXO IV as it looks a neat little unit. The one thing I'm not sure about is whether I'll miss not having a torque setting available to me. Also glad I didn't having since found out that it's cheaper at Argos.

A competing (non-torque) item from Black & Decker, was this compact screwdriver.

I also looked at a Black & Decker offering which has a torque setting and a useless (to me) screw holder mechanism

There were a few choices, including B&Q's own brand Performance Power which is probably just as good as the brand named items at a lower price.

One thing I know so far is it has to be Lithium Ion and not NiMH powered - better technology!

It looks like they all will take the same size "bits" too, so at least something is standard
The relevant sized bits aren't available at B&Q though.

If anyone has other suggestions or further input, please feel free!
          Cheers,
          Rob

              Yup, you're probably right Mike
Thinking about it, I'll probably not be screwing deep enough to worry about the torque

The one I have has variable speed on the trigger, works fine for me and I drive them all the way in, then ease the trigger and do the final bit slowly.

What's the overall quality of that Power Performance driver you've got like, Trev?

I don't have that one, the Power Performance stuff tends to be durable and just as good as the next bit of kit unless you start paying big money. The one I have is MAC Allister. I bought it because it was cheap

Just noticed Argos have these for £19.99

                      Bosch IXO £19.99 at argoss
I've got one of those as well but it is either on or off - no variable speed on the trigger. For using it on the heli you'd really need a good quality variable speed one in my opinion. If you were good at modifying it is the perfect size though ..... in stock form the starting torque could strip the heads unless you are using stainless screws.

I'm sure if you asked really nicely, with a great big 'pretty please', someone will step forward and offer to be your tool Rob. Just sit back and watch while they do all the wrist twisting for you.

I didn't think I'd sent you that many screws rob!?
You deffo want one with settable torque and it should be possible to set it low enough to work down to m2.5 into cheesium.
(got a bunch of folks putting tiny self tappers into zinc sh1t metal castings up in north manchester for us).

when you are in full production you want the screwdrivers hanging on tensator spring blances from the ceiling. Of course you would have several so you don't need to change the bits...

With a little bit of investment you could also load up buckets of stainless screws on hopper feed into the screwdrivers with automatic loctite dispensing?
